Happy Birthday!
Thank you friend! <3
So I just saw episode 16 a couple hours ago and the more time passes the more I'm like WTF did they do it that way?
honestly that’s the mood for the whole episode!!!
literally everything they did ended up being for nothing, and somehow Lucasfilm did not learn from TLJ that no one likes watching failure and pyrrhic victories
by the end of this episode Din has lost literally everything except his beskar, he has no ship, he has broken the Creed on purpose twice and the show gives him zero time to unpack that, he might have to fight Bo-Katan to the death but even that exposition should have been put off until the season three premiere so it could be addressed in the moment and not just immediately sidelined, he nearly died to get his kid back and ultimately only gets to hold him for maybe five minutes before Uncanny Valley Luke strolls in to take him away
and for what? I know they would never go a whole season without the cash cow baby, so on Easy Mode they’ll do a time skip for a few years, and on More Likely Mode they’ll go maybe three episodes to establish Din getting his career back on track and then realizing there’s a Yodito shaped hole in his life
the darktroopers should have stayed spaced, Luke should never have shown up, Din should have gone back to the Armorer and said he tried everything but he couldn’t find the kid’s people, and the Armorer should have shrugged and said “welp you’re a dad now”
For the end of year ask meme: #8 and/or #3
8. Which fic this year was most fun to write?
it’s a tie between the TOG/PacRim fusion and the TOG/A Knight’s Tale fusion, both of which made me giggle with delight several times in the writing process
3. Which of your fics was most different from what you usually write?
honestly all the TOG stuff this year has been a massive change because suddenly I’ve got eighty research tabs open at all times, and back when I was just writing Star Wars I could make up whatever I want 🙃
@lowbudgetcyborg NUDGE NUDGE, and for what it’s worth, a huge reason my TOG obsession hasn’t waned is that it is an extremely emotionally fulfilling movie with a genuinely hopeful theme! your mileage may vary of course but I find it to be excellent viewing in the midst of emotional exhaustion
@lowbudgetcyborg you know, I’m just saying, I headcanoned that Omera was ex-Rebel Intelligence, and if Din needed somebody to help track down one (1) Imperial light cruiser, that would have been a great character to bring back to the show
or literally anybody but Mayfeld
Yeah, after I sent that last ask my brain was immediately like "No wait, Mako is obviously the foundling! Mando Stacker!"
I AM PLEASED TO REPORT I CANNOT STOP THINKING ABOUT THIS
Stacker as Mand’alor-in-exile, whose planet has been poisoned against him but who still has the support of some of the clans (even if Clan Hansen’s younger member has a grudge against Pentecost’s foundling protégé)
Mako as the clan’s breadwinner in a pre-Empire gunship she restored herself
Sasha Kaidanovsky forged Mako’s armor out of beskar melted down from Tamsin’s—her dying wish when she learned she wouldn’t live to see Mandalore restored
Raleigh lost his brother—and everyone else—at Alderaan, and has spent the last few years assigned to patrol on the Rim, missing the days when he knew who he was fighting and why. it would be a boring assignment, spending days in a cramped X-wing cockpit, if it weren’t for this ship whose path keeps crossing his
and as for Jake Pentecost, well. is it too awful for them to have lost him on the Night of a Thousand Tears? Stacker and Mako believed he was dead for years. he wasn’t. he was being trained by old men who all had the same faces under their helmets and who, in the privacy of the barracks, spoke to Jake in Mando’a.
Fic premise: Raleigh Becket is a Mandalorian who hasn't shown his face since his brother died. Mako Mori is a Rebel/New Republic pilot and/or engineer. Somehow they have to team up to deal with an Imperial remnant or keep the New Republic from making the same mistakes as the old one. Along the way they re-learn to connect and trust.
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY SOMETHING I WOULD WRITE
except the roles would be reversed, Mako is a Mando and Raleigh is the jaded (or so he thinks) Rebel who’s already disillusioned with the New Republic
@lowbudgetcyborg replied to your post “submitted by @lucygaybaird sorry to jump in here like this but now i’m...”
I feel like the longer I go before I watch this movie the more I'm going to be disapointed that the soundtrack is not the one you would have given it
I’m sorry to report it is a deeply disappointing soundtrack
