scott is mason’s role model. he sees all that he’s been through, he can relate to it himself ( especially with scott ft. the berserker and mason ft. the beast!! ) and the fact that he still seems so strong and positive is something mason will always truly admire. he reminds him a lot of himself: positive, always helping, always caring for everyone. that’s exactly what mason aspires to be. there was a point in time when mason started to believe this was a BAD thing. he became the host of the beast because he was truly good, and he knew that his good nature and his positively was almost deadly for him. but scott is a reminder that he needs to fight through those insecurities and worries. what mason sees in scott is that he never gives up on people and he sees the best in people; that’s how mason wants to be perceived, too.
mason has considered himself a part of this pack since he found out about liam. he was eager to research every creature in the pack because they all mattered to him; he immediately looked at them as friends and as family. he isn’t supernatural, but he doesn’t want to be seen as just a human. he wants to be a valued member of this pack. he knows he doesn’t have strength, but he has his knowledge and that will go far. validation from scott is very important to him; scott doesn’t let him feel like just a human. he makes him feel like a valued member of the pack who can actually help, and as long as mason can help his friends, he is in a good spot.
