they only started actually dating a few years after school

sure there's feelings and tension there from day one maybe but alberto is too chicken to ask luca out

i think the initial thought is going to get gelato, but that was something they did as kids (if you squint) and i feel like they'd want to cross the grey area between "is this a friend thing or a dating thing" yk?

knowing them, their typical ideas of The Perfect Date are very different

luca would want to go walking down portorosso at night or during a festival where there's pretty lights

or look into bookstores and shop windows

where alberto would rather fix up the vespa/next new project over a messy dinner alberto pointedly will make for them and cheap wine

so because they're hopeless alberto guilt trips giulia into figuring it out

the compromise: giulia throwing some boxes of pasta at alberto and telling luca to put a record on the gramophone and just stay home

they wouldn't kiss on the first date even though they've shared little cheek kisses throughout the years

but alberto as a last minute idea steals flowers from some neighbor's garden (uproots them-) and gives them to luca, even though he's covered in dirt and clay

they're hopeless your honor

personally i think if they did have a baby (surrogate or adopted dumpster child) it would be a boy <3

because of alberto's past he had a hard time adjusting to having a lil' guy running around

but after the first initial shock he soon (very soon) was obsessed

i'm sure he asked massimo lots of advice on being The Good Parent

they invite giulia over almost every other night for bath time cause as soon as the baby sees the scales on luca or alberto he cries

but giulia? having no complaints

she'd eat that upppp, since she's the only child??

daniela and lorenzo intentionally spend more time above the surface to spend time with the baby

giulia rooting through massimo's messy cabinets and clutter to find old italian books of baby names

i'm sure massimo's wife had because she seems like type of new mom to just have old baby books and names convince me otherwise

it would be so cute if alberto hung around the paguro's more often while luca and giulia were away at school and then started to call luca by 'bubble' like daniela does just because he was so used to hearing it.

i can't find the clip online when daniela is confronting luca about the surface, but the part when they're "WE???" and luca is definitely blushing there, and with as much love into a single word as he can muster, says it SO SWEETLY: "with my friend, alberto." LIKE CMON THAT WAS WHEN HE KNEW. I FEEL LIKE IT WAS ONE OF THOSE 'GOT CAUGHT WITH A BOY' SCENES I MEAN COME ONN
