The sound of a firework explosion woke the child up. It was muffled by the layers of glass and insulation inside the thick walls and windows, but still too loud for the fine hearing of the boy. He jumped scared when another explosion illuminated his room with colors almost as unbearable as the sound itself.
"Mommy," he whispered, lower lip trembling as he stood against his crib's bars.
He waited for his mother's comforting form to appear but instead another firework exploded. He yelped in surprise and fear, his fists tightening around the bars. The scared child made a decision. He climbed up the bars and landed butt first on the ground. Another explosion came followed by another scream. The colorful lights reflected on the earmuffs on top of the nightstand.
A lifeline.
He tiptoed as far as he could to reach them, and jumped in reflex when they hit the floor. He'd barely put them on when the next explosion came, the sound much softer now. He sat against the wall and rubbed his eyes before closing them. The colors hurt him, almost as bad as the sound.
Inside his personal darkness he started to doze off.
Unbeknownst to him the main show was just about to start.
One after the other big explosions of color came without a second of respite. The boy screamed to the top of his lungs and ran towards the door. He jumped once, twice, thrice before his small hands reached the knob and the door opened. He ran and didn't stop until his body crashed against the next door.
He banged his fists and begged. "Mommy! Daddy!" And banged and begged, until finally the door opened.
"Luc, what's wrong sweetheart?" Hot tears left his eyes when his mom picked him up.
"Hurt," he mumbled, lips trembling, hands on the earmuffs and his face hidden against his mother's chest.
Karen looked at the window. "Oh... are the fireworks bothering you, baby?" A nod followed by a small kiss to the top of his head.
"What happened?" Matt asked, voice laced with exhaustion. He'd arrived not an hour earlier.
"Lucas was crying. How come we didn't hear it?"
Matt turned to his side, facing the nightstand. He took the baby monitor in his hand and frowned.
"Dead battery." He put the device back and burrowed his face against his pillow. "I'll change it tomorrow."
Karen smiled, and dropped their son down on the bed. The boy let a surprised noise and tried to move back to his mother's arms. Before he could, his father pulled him into a hug.
"Sorry, Luc. Daddy will come next time. Promise."
He didn't completely understand what his dad was trying to say, but when his mom laid next to them he knew he was safe. The lights and the sounds disappeared to the warmth and heartbeats of his parents.

What is Foxhound?
Foxhound is the shortened version of “The Fox and The Hound” ship name for Mike Schmidt and Foxy the Pirate, alternatively called “Mioxy”. There are two different AUs / versions of Foxhound featured on this blog:
Mike Elizabeth Schmidt x Axel / Foxy
Taken from the Reborniverse / Parlourverse AUs by Rebornica and AvecPardon (@fivenightsatfreddysfanfiction). Mike E. is an annoyed grump with a heart of gold who survived the Bite of ‘87 but doesn't remember it. Axel is the world's saddest, soggiest cat who caused the Bite and feels guilty over hurting his best friend. Note: Mod Mangle has a lot of AUs about them, so expect to see them at some point as well.
Michael Schmidt x “Red” Rodrigo
Taken from the Lucasverse AU by Mod Benny. Michael is keeping his head down to get through the work week, and is possibly depressed. Rodrigo is a washed-up theater kid, and is also depressed. Ship sometimes includes Leslie aka “Doll”, Michael's fiancee (the name for this specific ship is “Polyhound”).

okay, I found the thing where it was brought up, peeled from The Cutting Room Floor's page on EB64/M3 64: "The reason why his early "poncho" design was scrapped was due to series creator Shigesato Itoi disliking the design, which Itoh also reflected upon: “The previous Lucas looked a lot like me…so all the staff shouted, “No!” Especially Shigesato Itoi in particular who shouted, “No!” So he requested I redesign the main character to something more straightforward. Thus, I completely redesigned him.”"
