Part 1/2
Something I would love to see expanded on in a possible Transformers One trilogy is how Elita and D-16/Megatron are foils of each other.
Elita is Good but she's Not Nice compared to D-16 who is Nice but Not Good.
They are both short tempered, hard working characters that desire to be in positions of power and authority and pre-cogged, they both followed the rules and did as they were told without question or complaint.
The biggest difference between them is that Elita was alone (from what we can see in the movie) in the mines while D-16 had Orion.
I believe that Elita's harshness in the mines was a result of, not just the horrible work environment, but also her solitude. Her isolation seemed to have aided her in becoming team captain and almost becoming supervisor.
Something D-16 could have also achieved if he wasn't always saving Orion from his own recklessness.
I wouldn't be surprised if seeing Elita advance in the ranks despite not having a meaningful connection with anyone fueled D-16's resentment towards Orion and the feeling of being held back from his true potential.
Orion seems to act as a moral anchor/compass for people with Elita and D-16's personality type. I say this because Elita and D-16 were fully prepared and willing to let Jazz die if it meant following protocol. The only reason why D-16 went back to save Jazz, is because Orion did (nice but not good). Elita only threw that support beam to stop the entrance from closing on them because they were almost out and once they were safe, she scolded Orion for disobeying her and breaking protocol (good but not nice).
This leads to what we can see happening in the film, D-16 distancing himself from Orion and becoming crueler (more angry, more violent, less compassionate), while Elita got kinder (less angry, less harsh, more compassionate) the more time she spent around Orion.
By the end of the movie, D-16 has allowed his resentment and rage to consume him and turn him into Megatron. He's destroyed any connection he once had with others in order to have power and authority. Elita has once again (after being fired) gained power and authority but she had to learn that you have to break the rules sometimes to do the right thing and she's finally learned the value of companionship.
The point I'm trying to make is that Elita could very easily go down the same path as D-16 and become like Megatron if she is put under enough pressure and doesn't have others (Optimus, Bee, the Autobots) there to ground/guide her.
And that would be a very interesting concept/character arc/dynamic to explore in a sequel/trilogy between Elita and Megatron.
Part 2: A character study on Elita, what could be a good arc for her and I expand on the similarities between her and Megatron a bit more
