delighted distress.

They say you should never call the emergency room “quiet.” It’s a forbidden curse and one he’s only witnessed a grand total of two times in his short career. Both nurses and doctors do their best to avoid this, but at times, a patient could have the balls to say it, and no one with a foot in the grave is going to get reprimanded for it.
Unfortunately.
In-patients are calmer times, sure. But the thrill of seeing a half-dead man crawling on his hands and knees into the slew of busy bodies is a beautiful sight. If he catches it in time, he could see the hope slide from their eyes. This combined with the fact that he could be the last thing the man sees is an absolute delight; the person who was supposed to save you.
Imagine the horror in that.
So he stays. While Hyungwon finishes his last round of patients on the left side of the emergency room, he’s quickly greeted with another incoming. It makes his shoulders sag just slightly, and his overworked legs want to run away screaming. However, his shift isn’t technically over yet, and the state of this young man has to be the best vision he’s had all day.
Cuts on his shoulder, arms, torso, legs… Is he limping?
The on-call nurse is with the unfortunate man before him. If he was being honest, he was taking his time; just surveying the new patient. It’s obvious that the black-haired man isn’t in the state to be talking, and breathing seems rough, but Hyungwon’s asking questions anyway just to be sure. “Where do you feel the most pain?” He checks for any airway blockage, blood pressure and pulse anomalies, and what the most visible external injuries might be. The works.
What are these markings?
There’s a round of questioning from the three nurses surrounding the bedded patient. The only time Hyungwon has ever been on one of these emergency beds is if he’s absolutely exhausted and on a double shift, so it must not be comfortable for someone in such a horrid state. Everyone seems far more passionate about this than he is, though, and all he wants to do is sedate the black-haired man laying in front of him to temporarily put him out of his misery. But that’s not how typical procedures go, so he settles on taking care of the injuries he can readily see.
