Layers Meme: Lucky Daisy

Did one for Rosie, so here’s one for Daisy

LAYER ONE: THE OUTSIDE

Name: “Lucky” Daisy 

Eye Color: Hazel

Hair Style/Color: Chin length dark auburn hair, with a slight wave 

Height: 5′6″

Clothing Style: Casual clothes: Tailored shirts and jeans. Maybe, on occasion, a nice skirt. And on special days, just maybe, a fitted dress. Travel clothing: light leather armor, stealth armor later on. Always has her lucky cowboy hat and boots. 

Best Physical Feature: Others would say her sturdy, long legs but Daisy thinks its her smile 

LAYER TWO: THE INSIDE

Fears: Dark, cramped spaces (for obvious reasons), cazadors, being captured/bound....she still flinches around radios if there is feedback 

Guilty Pleasure: Singing in the shower to show-tunes. 

Biggest Pet Peeve: People who talk too much. All talk and no action is just aggravating to her. But she also just hates chatterboxes. Blah blah blah blah-ugh just shut up already. 

Ambition for the Future: Feel less complacent; figure out identity and fill in the gaps of her memory. Even if that means leaving New Vegas behind. 

LAYER THREE: THOUGHTS

First Thoughts Waking Up: “Well, I’m still alive.” with a mix of “What now?”

What They Think About the Most: What to do next, whatever that may be. Always stay busy, keep her mind busy. 

What They Think About Before Bed: Her fears, and how she can keep them at bay so the nightmares won’t overwhelm her. “What’s with that spot on the ceiling?” 

What They Think Their Best Quality Is: Her indifference, as weird as that sounds. She can be neutral and unbiased when the situation calls for it. That and her sharpshooting with revolvers.

LAYER FOUR: WHAT’S BETTER?

Single or Group Dates: Single. Daisy has no patience for large groups of people, and if she’s interested in somebody, she wants to focus on them and have all the attention on them. No distractions necessary. 

To be Loved or Respected: Respect. Love is for suckers. (She thinks, there’s a cloudy part of her brain that thinks maybe love could be in the cards for her...maybe). 

Beauty or Brains: Daisy likes to look at pretty things; beauty. 

Dogs or Cats: Dogs

LAYER FIVE: DO YOU?

Lie: Yes. Convincingly? Maybe not. But what’s the fun in telling the truth all the time? 

Believe in Yourself: Of course. If she doesn’t, nobody else will. Even on the worst days, she’s gotta be her own biggest fan.

Believe in Love: For others, sure. For herself? *discontented sounds* Daisy isn’t so sure. Maybe it’s the rattly shrapnel in her brain, but love scares her. Then again, there’s something wistful and alluring about settling down; it pokes at a hidden part of her memories she hasn’t unlocked quite yet. 

Want Someone: Doesn’t everyone?

LAYER SIX: HAVE YOU EVER?

Been on Stage: No. Wouldn’t mind singing a tune for Tommy Torini, if she had the time. 

Done Drugs: Not recreationally. Medical purposes, and in the heat of battle, sure. Daisy’s a smoker, and a whiskey aficionado (though Cass still has her beat). 

Changed Who You Were to Fit In: Unsure. Daisy’s sure she’s been true to herself, at least since waking up from being shot in the head. Maybe that injury makes it hard to fake being anything else. 

LAYER SEVEN: WHAT’S THEIR…

Favorite colors: “sunset colors”, golden yellow, blush and lilac; she’s also fond of ivory, but mostly on her weapons 

Favorite animal: Bears always looked neat on the NCR flags...until she came across yao guai in Zion Canyon. Then bears became a little less ‘neat’ and more ‘oh shit terrifying’. 

Favorite book: Daisy isn’t the biggest reader, and can’t remember having any favorites from before waking up in Goodsprings. She does pick up a few interesting texts from the libraries and offices that peak her interest, including Little Women. Reminds her of...something in her past she can’t quite place. 

Favorite game: Definitely not Caravan. Daisy likes casino games, and blackjack is her favorite. She’s not a math-girl, but she does teach herself how to count cards...but her luck usually pays out in her favor so she doesn’t need to rely on that. Of course, she also likes to sit at the slots and watch the bright flash. She’s a magpie in that way.

LAYER EIGHT: AGE

DOB: June 7, 2254

How Old Will You Be: 27 during the events of New Vegas. 28 when then events wrap-up. 29-30 during post-canon shenanigans of her ruling an independent New Vegas and eventually traveling to Arizona in search of her past. 

Age You Lost Your Virginity: 18 

Does Age Matter: In terms of flings that aren’t serious- no, age doesn’t matter, as long as she’s having a good time. Daisy isn’t sure if she’s capable of anything serious (doesn’t remember if she’s had anything real in the past), but if she were to settle down, she’d like that person to be close to her in age, just so they can share a future together as long as possible.

32 & 33 for Courier Lucky Daisy :3c

32. what are their favorite weapons? where did they get these weapons?

Daisy has always favored revolvers, even before she got shot in the head. Memory loss be damned, some things you can’t forget (blessed be muscle memory). Shortly after leaving Goodsprings, she finds a really fancy revolver in the Bison Steve Hotel while stopping through Primm; Lucky. Later on, after earning a haul of caps, she buys “That Gun” from Cliff Briscoe and “Medicine Stick” from the Gun Runners. 

33. do they flirt a lot? is it well-received?

Oh, Daisy’s a big flirt, even though she’s not much of a conversationalist. She’s subtle about it, it’s all in the action more than her words; there’s just something about her aura. Get her drinking and her flirtations just get wilder and wittier. She’s known to flirt with all her companions...even sending ED-E a few one-liners, if only to embarrass/frustrate Arcade. It is very hit/miss, and the only one who is moderately receptive to it is Cass, but only when the two have been tossing back the whiskey. 

It should be noted that the Black Widow perk goes hand-in-hand with her flirting; that’s when it’s really effective.

ALL THE LADIES!!!

056. Has your character ever struck someone in anger?

Rosie has done so in a mix of self-defense and when she was at her wits end at being teased/bullied by Butch. This happened when they were 15, and she gave him a black eye...it was the talk of the Vault for weeks. He laid off of her for a while, gained her some respect for a while, but eventually he fell back into his old ways. Though, he never tried to physically harm her anymore, knowing she might fight back. 

Madelyn has never done so, even though she’s thought about slapping Nate in frustration during their dating/early married life. In the Wasteland, she’s thought about it more often with the crummy people she’s crossed paths with- raiders, the institute, etc. But, she’s a woman who believes in solving conflict with words, so...no slappy-slaps for her. 

Daisy has smacked sense into plenty of people; some have deserved it more than others. Sometimes, all somebody needs is to be slapped silly. There’s something cathartic about it. Especially the chatty ones, who won’t shut up. smack!

19, 26, and 31 for the courier asks?

19. what is their motive for taking vegas?

To put it simply, indifference towards the other factions. Well, Daisy does hate the Legion (even though she doesn’t remember her past and why there’s so much associated hate with them, but hey, shouldn't everybody hate those guys?). When she crawls out of her grave in Goodsprings, her only motivation was revenge and killing Benny. Traveling through the Mojave, she quickly learns to resent what gets asked of her by the different factions. By the time she reaches the Strip, she’s frustrated, to say the least, and nearly rejects House outright (but finds the fun in stringing him along). Once she learns of the real plan to take over New Vegas from Benny (before he skips out, again), she realizes that, hey, that sounds like a pretty sweet deal and chases after it herself with Yes Man in tow. Whacking House over the head with a Nine-Iron is a nice consolation prize. 

26. what’s their d&d alignment?

Daisy is a chaotic neutral. She still helps people, but only if it suits her needs. She loves to have her freedom, but lives a wild life. Random luck dictates her life is always chaotic.  

31. where do they usually sleep? do they have more than one home location? do they live with any other people?

When traveling, she’s lucky to have a place to lay her head. Though, she always carries a few extra caps to rent a room, so she doesn’t mind staying in a strange place. While Daisy likes the quiet of her hotel room in Novac (and the ease of it’s location to everything else in the desert), nothing really beats the presidential suite of the Lucky 38. She’s always lusted for the finer things in life (or, so she thinks), so it suits her well. It’s nice to have her companions around after traveling alone for so long.

10, 11, 25 maybe? for the fnv ask thing

10. where were they born/raised? when/why did they leave?

Daisy was born in Flagstaff, AZ in 2254 right on the cusp of the Legion uprising. This answer is going to bleed into 25 (below); her parents died when she was 14, and she had to scrape by to survive and go undetected by the slavers/raiders and Legion to not get kidnapped. Ultimately, she was found hiding out with some lumberers and barely escaped from the Legion with her life. This was when she was 17. She fled for Nevada and never looked back. 

11. when, why and how did they become a courier? how long did they remain a courier before benny shot them?

At first, when Daisy came to Nevada, she worked as a mercenary sharp-shooter for caravans traveling in and out of the Mojave. Though, she focused on routes that went West rather than East, as she wanted to avoid going back into Arizona. After too many close calls with raiders/Legion  and getting wrapped up in the politics of caravans life, she called it quits and found a new life as a courier. Still got to roam the desert, but most people didn’t mess with the people who delivered the mail, so she got to take it easy. Daisy started this new ‘career’ when she was 25, so two years before being ambushed by Benny. It was good while it lasted. 

25. what were their parents like? are they still on good terms with their parents?

Daisy’s parents were kind-hearted and hard working people. New-age hippies, one could say. Her mother was an artist, and her father was a wood-worker and lumberer (his union of labor-workers help to hide Daisy away after her parents die). Together, the two run the local restaurant/bar, but it is raided/burned to the ground during a Legion attack in 2268. 

Unfortunately, Daisy doesn’t remember them at all. After bringing independence to the Strip, she hangs around for a few years but ultimately gets a little bored/indifferent about her life. Memories of a former life start to flicker back into her mind and she decides to travel, called to the Arizona desert for some strange reason.

39. have they ever been irradiated? how did they deal with it? did it have lasting effects?

Daisy’s been smart about how much radiation she’s exposed herself to, careful not to get too irradiated or sick. That being said, some of the vaults are just covered in radiation, and it can’t be helped. She makes sure to carry around some Rad-X and Rad-Away, because she doesn’t want to deal with the horrors of rad-sickness. Even light rad-sickness makes her queasy, so it’s best to avoid it as best as she can. When in doubt, send the robot in. Or Raul. Even if he gives her some snark about it.  

42. name a random fact about your courier.

She was born in a log cabin in Flagstaff, AZ that was hand-built by her parents. Though, thanks to the memory loss, she doesn’t remember this about her childhood. 

49. did they kill caesar? vulpes inculta? what about prominent ncr figures, like kimball and colonel hsu?

Daisy didn’t hand down the killing blow to Caesar; didn’t get the chance in the chaos of the fight with all her companions helping, and making sure Benny didn’t escape (again)--even though that’s exactly what ended up happening. Luckily, Boone took care of that. She shot Vulpes down on the Strip, because she regretted not doing so in Nipton and was insulted by a peace-offering from the Legion. Even though she ultimately did not align with the NCR, she did not kill any prominent figures...even though she was sometimes tempted to. She especially regrets not allowing Yes Man to toss General Oliver off the Hoover Dam.
