i have a headcanon thats more self indulgent than anything else but its basically a sixth sense (the movie) au where there are different "levels" of ghosts, and there are actually a ton of what are called shades that wander around but they cant be seen by normal people and cant interact with the world or humans, but danny can see them after the accident.

for bonus angst points, shades reflect how they died in their ghostly forms
