Nervous didn't even begin to describe how Natsu felt sitting under the grand oak tree. He arrived ten minutes earlier than planned- he just couldn't sit still in his house. The boy had been pacing around, babbling nonsense before Happy had to push him out the door. Besides, he wanted to be the one to greet Lucy when she arrived anyway.
What if she's unhappy with me after all and changed her mind? Natsu thought, anxiously clutching the picnic basket. He shooed those thoughts away and melted over the memories of Lucy telling him that she was in love. It was that warm and fuzzy feeling he got from Lucy that he could never explain to his guild mates without being ridiculed.
The pinkette had come over to Lucy's house earlier to tell her where he had set up their date and when to be there. She seemed surprised, but probably because he had just climbed through her window. That, and he was blushing like a fool.
He yanked on his collar in annoyance. These dressy clothes didn't suit him, but Happy told him he looked good before he left the house, so he could only assume he looked the part. It was times like these, these nervous times, that were so rare for Natsu. Like waiting for a storm that he knew was coming.
Natsu glanced down at the flowers sitting beside him. He smiled. Pink roses and tulips. He wasn't quite sure what kind of flower Lucy wanted, so he opted for two kinds, like the idiot he is.
He gulped, wishing he wore a watch so he could tell what time is was. The boy started to fidget with his wristband. So many things could go wrong so soon. But this was Lucy. Lucy knew how he was, and she knew his faults.
He grinned confidently then, happily waiting for his Lucy to arrive under the grand oak.
