sum. you might as well be a damn doctor with how often you take care of the constant-exhausted professor.
note. I'm glad you liked it 💜💙 I also have no idea what to name this fic so I just improvised the previous title, don't question it lmao.
If anyone asks what do you do for a living, you'd be torn to answer between professor or nurse. The newest professor seems to have a habit of disappearing into thin air only for you to find him unable to hold his weight.
"Your ass seems to like the ground very much." You sassed, unimpressed eyes scanning his crouched figure under a tree.
"It's the ground who likes my ass very much." He riposted, his raspy voice was the first indication of exhaustion, but with how he sassed you back you doubt he's anything but exhausted.
"If you can retort, you can probably walk. Get up before anyone come looking for me." You urged him and try to lift his weight.
"How is that my fault? You're the one who followed me." He shot you a baffled look.
"And you're the one who kept disappearing. I don't care what shenanigans you're into but please, for the love of God, be more discreet about it. I love walking alone in night but now I can't do that because of your shady business."
"Then walk somewhere I'm nowhere near." He scoffed.
"How about you do your shady business elsewhere?"
"You talk like you own every property here."
You poked his sides, hard. Enough for him to hunch over in pain and to grab the tree for support. "Y-You're an evil person." He created out, glaring at you.
"Wow, I thought you're smart and yet you only figure that out just now?" Your sarcasm couldn't been more obvious.
Despite your actions, you move to sling his arm over your shoulder and try to lift him up. Keyword: try 'cuz good Lord, he must be an elephant.
"What do you e-eat for lunch that m-made you so o-overweight?" You croaked out, adjusting his limp arm over your nape and practically doing all the hard work to keep you two moving.
"You're into fat-shaming?" He glared at you through his hunched figure, "And I'm not overweight nor does it have to do with my diet, you simply don't have muscle mass."
"Now you're skinny-shaming me?"
"Stating facts doesn't mean I'm insulting you." His voice gradually faded out.
Then, he's out of light. Your eye visibly twitched.
"I'll drop you if you don't wake up." No response.
"Oh, look. The principal's here." Again, no response.
It wasn't your first time randomly aiding his ass to a safer place, however most of those times were done with his conscious while throwing remarks here and there. With an exasperated sigh, you doubled your effort limping to the Academy.
For once, the journey was quiet. You don't know if you want to celebrate or to scratch your neck, while his annoying mouth is absent you dread over the fact you have to take care of his unconscious form.
You finally reached his room, kicking the door open before haphazardly throwing him over his bed — the result has his elbows bent uncomfortably, feet hanging out and his face smushed on the mattress.
You leaned against the door, eyes succinctly observing his destitute posture under the poor fulguration. There are no visible wounds and other concerning physical problems, therefore you have no other business of him other than leaving him be.
A blazing headache forced Ludger to pry his eyes open, the uncomfortable throb in his temples has him groaning in discomfort. The room is dimly lit, indicating the morning is yet to come. He vaguely remembers passing out after subduing criminals, but his head is in such disarray to even remember the whole picture.
Despite the aches, he forced himself to sit up and assess the situation. Though it didn't take him too long when he sees you hunched over by the chair across him, dozing off between reality and dreamworld.
Did you bring him here? If so, then why can't he remember?
"Oh, great. The menace has awoken." Your gruff voice pierced through the silent night, stretching your limbs before inching closer to his disoriented form. "You passed out on me and I took the liberty to be a good Samaritan and brought you here myself." Your words lack the usual bite, probably because of the drowsiness.
"Is that so?" His hushed response earned him a raised eyebrow.
"Why do you sound like that? You don't have a fever, do you?" Without question, you placed the back of your hand on his forehead and felt his temperature in normal status. Completely unaware how he froze and glanced at you.
"Must be from the overextend of Mana usage. For a seasoned mage, you sure find yourself often in these rookie situations."
"If you're not gonna help, you're welcome to leave." You rolled your eyes, finding his defensive remark tad bit boring to listen.
"I never said that." With your hand still on his forehead, you infused your mana to generate a magic circle.
Ludger felt the pleasant effect of his headache subsiding, replaced by an odd comforting warmth. He'd usually depend on his pills, but magic is proven useful it seems, he might depend on you occasionally. Although he already has, multiple times now.
He almost slumped right back if not for your presence, gotta remain professional and not ruin his reputation.
You quickly assess his status before humming in satisfactory and wordlessly left his room. It took seconds before he scoffed indignant, perhaps there was no point in preserving his reputation around you anymore.
where you drag ludger out for a moment of relaxation
“… Why am I here?”
Ludger glanced around, finding himself in a grass field. He turned to you.
“Oh come on. You have been doing nothing but work for the entire day. I am doing you a favour by getting you some fresh air!”
“I believe a favour is something one does to help the other.”
“Correct. And I am helping you!” You laughed.
‘In what way?’ Ludger wondered. He was drawing up his next lesson plans in his office when you suddenly barged in and dragged him away by his sleeve, muttering something about ‘doing too much work’. He shook his head at that recollection, and silently prayed that Sedina, the unfortunate witness, did not interpret this as a kidnapping of her superior by a fellow professor.
‘Too much work?’ Ludger himself had never thought of it this way. He was used to such a life, even before Ceoren, even before coming to this world. Back then, he had spent all his time studying.
‘Back then, I wanted so much to escape from mother’s religious teachings…’
So much that he never really had a chance to-
“Slow down and take a breath. Even if it is just for today!” Your voice chimed in his ears.
“…!!”
Ludger’s eyes widened slightly, as he slowly turned to face you. There you were, your figure illuminated by the warm glow of the setting sun. At that moment, your hair fluttered gently against the breeze.
That same gust of wind reached Ludger, who slightly raised his arm against it.
It was such a simple sight, even more so for someone who had travelled around this world for the past 20 years. Yet such a simple sight somehow stirred his emotions. He could only stand dumbfounded, remaining still as you made your way towards him.
“Ta da!” You shoved a bundle of something into his face.
Ludger blinked at the bundle of blue flowers you had gathered in front of him, its sweet scent drifted in the air. He opened his mouth to speak, but was interrupted by a tug on his sleeve.
“Come! Sit down!” You instructed. Ludger complied.
‘She’s just like Teacher…’ Ludger mused internally, recalling all those times when he had to do Grander’s bidding.
Another tug that was now felt on his hair prodded him back to reality. Instinctively, he tried to turn around.
“Don’t move! Or it won’t look nice.” Your voice came from behind.
‘What won’t look nice?’ He pondered. But his question was quickly answered as he felt his hair being weaved into a braid.
As you braided his hair, you can’t help but notice how silky and smooth it was. “Hey. What exactly did you do to make your hair like this?”, you questioned.
“I did not do anything.” Came the reply.
“Tch. God is unfair”
‘… She is’ Ludger can’t help but agree wryly.
“Done!” You gently let go of Ludger’s hair, and stood up for a better look at your masterpiece.
Surrounded by tiny blue flowers, sat the man known as Ludger Cherish. His raven hair that was usually pulled back was now in a French braid, decorated with the same flowers that surrounded him. As the man turned around, your can’t help but gape at how the light reflected off his sapphire orbs. Against the setting sun, it almost seemed to glow red. A red flower in the middle of a flower field.
“You are like a giant flower!”
“Please don’t give me weird names.”
“Pfft” You chuckled. You spread out your arms and let yourself fall onto the ground. With a soft thud, your landing sent some tiny petals into the air. As you inhaled the scent of the soil, you gazed at the sky.
“Look, the moon is coming up”
“I can see that”
“You must lie down to see it properly”
“There is no need. I can strengthen my eyes with-“
“That beats the fun! Come lie down!”
Ludger glanced at you, wondering if you were serious. But when he saw those clear eyes of yours, he sighed.
“… Just this once”. He mumbled as he stiffly uncrossed his legs and lowered his back to the ground. You stifled your laughter, having never seen a more reluctant act.
‘Oi’
Ludger shot you a look.
“What’s so-”
“Look, a shooting star!”
Your exclamation drew Ludger’s attention to the night sky.
As he looked up, a silvery streak shot through the sky, illuminating the path it travelled.
‘…’
The vast darkness that he had been expecting with was now a deep blue, draped by a blanket of stars. It was as if someone had spilled a jar of jewels. Ludger blinked at the sight, trying to take in everything. At the same time, that one nursery song from his previous life played in his mind.
‘They really are like diamonds’
“What did you wish for?” You turned to face him.
“Wish…” he returned a blank stare.
You noticed how he had just recovered from being literally starstruck, and chuckled.
“Then I shall go first! My wish was… ” You closed your eyes and took a deep breath, before opening them.
‘Once this is all over’
“May the world be a place where you can smile at in the end”
As the words left your lips, Ludger froze slightly.
‘This world…’
‘Is it even possible? Will I-‘
His thoughts were interrupted by you, who placed your palm in front of him. In the centre of your palm was a glowing four leaf clover, it emitted a silvery light, reminiscent of the stars. Unconsciously, Ludger reached out to it. As his fingers made contact with the clover, it burst into a trail of light, scattering into the air.
“It will certainly be the case!” You spoke confidently. “Especially so with my good luck spell!”
Your words were met with a sharp intake of breath. Then.
“Pfft” A chuckle, followed by a soft, genuine laughter.
Your eyes widened at the sight in front of you. There was the man known as Ludger Cherish, now with a gentle expression, a soft smile gracing his features.
“Thank you.”
‘May that be the case’
Extras-
The next day on Akashic Terminal:
“Yesterday night I saw Professor Ludger walking around with a flower braid!”
"I saw it too! He looked, quite cute?"
"Ehh? Is it true?"
"Impossible"
“… Did you guys study too much?”
“You guys must have hit your head too hard”
“The academy's counselling hotline is right here...”
"But I saw it!!"
Meanwhile, in your class:
The students glanced down at their lecture handouts.
'Are those... petals on our worksheet?'

TW: SUICIDE MENTIONS, ABUSE, VIOLENT MC DEATH, IMPLIED SEXUAL ABUSE, BLOOD&GORE AND ONE VERY ANGSTY REAPER
Ludger sighed, shivering in the cold air. He'd been asked to transfer to the American branch of dispatch for the week to make up for the lack of staff, due to a mass wave of sickness knocking many reapers out of commission.
Although he didn't particularly like work, he didn't mind the change of scenery. What he did mind was that Sascha was all alone at their apartment, which he was sure by now was a complete and utter wreck of broken glass, burnt cooking and dirty clothes.
He checked his phone again.
Somehow, not receiving any correspondence from the tiny reaper was much more unnerving.
He checked his watch. Two more retrivals before the night was done. Already midnight and pitch-black, it was almost impossible to see as he walked down a white, sandy beach for his next soul; a young girl at a beach house with her family.
He coughed in the dry air, relishing that no one was around to hear him and shy away. He hummed a bit to himself, ensuring he was hidden from human view as he came closer to a small, stand-alone pier-and-beam house overlooking the shore.
He could hear laughter and silly jokes; the sounds of game pieces being thrown back into their boxes and glasses clinked.
Checking his watch again, he discerned he had twenty minutes more to wait for the 23-year-old's untimely demise. Just enough to smoke a cigarette or two and dip his feet in the water.
Unlike Sascha, he hated reaping with a passion. Not because it was gruesome or gory; no, he was used to that. But because it was so much work. He had found the best way to cope was simply to enjoy the scenery as much as he could. It had been a little dull to reap solely in Germany after a while; he had to admit that America was a nice change of pace. He only had two more days to stay, anyway. No point in getting cozy. Just enough to get a taste of traveling.
His watch chimed its alarm, signaling he had two minutes before it was time to reap the soul.
He briefly glanced over the files, mildly surprised.
Beaten to death, he thought with a small, numbed amount of shock. In such a jovial family? It seemed unlikely, but everyone had their darksides. Only thirty seconds to go. He could look at her records to see what happened anyway.
As if on cue, the mild argument he'd heard over the last few minutes turned into a cacophony of screaming from multiple people, none being more pained than the girl shrieking out in agony as a wooden chair was bashed against her head.
He jumped to the open window sill.
Quite convenient, he thought with a little laugh. Some households you had to all but break in to get the soul.
She made eye contact with him for a brief second, terror and realization of what he was there for striking her in the last millisecond to her bloody death.
Ludger's shoulders slumped. She was a pretty girl, one he would normally have taken out if not for her imminent demise.
Her family left her there, to restrain the father that had beaten her and to call the parade of ambulances that would never be able to save her.
He hopped in nimbly, landing in a sticky pool of blood. By some miracle her fingers twitched as she made an effort to lift her torso up, to Ludger's immense shock.
"E-excuse me??" He stuttered, voice weak with anticipation of her actions. The dead don't magically come back to life. "Aren't you supposed to be dead?!" He checked her file in vain, knowing with total certainty that he was not incorrect.
"Please do something for me. I... know you can't save me." Her voice was slurred and blood pooled like a curtain in front of her eyes. Her fingers were ghostly white with the strength she was using to hold herself up, hair fanned out across her back, ends dragging through the blood.
His hands shook with the horror of what he was seeing. "Y-yes??"
"Plea--Se!" She finally gave up her fight with the ground, falling onto her side. "S-ave my sisters." She was gasping for breath.
"You had to see," she whispered, "what my father does to us. That's not the worst, either. I've been protecting them. Without me they'll end up just as mangled. Please... protect them however you can." Her voice was unmistakably choked with blood now. Although she could not physically look at him, Ludger could feel the desperation radiating off of her. It was comparable to the desperation he felt to die on the day that he finally gave up living in his sad, miserable human life.
He regained some composition.
"I'll make a deal with you.." He spoke quickly, knowing that unless she was saved now she'd die in the next two or so minutes. "I'll let you live to protect them as I cannot, if you marry me." He stated, realizing the stupidity of his own words only after he blurted them out.
She was silent for a moment.
Has she already died? He wondered briefly.
"Aughh...I'll t-ake your offer." She turned onto her back, gasping for any sort of breath.
Ludger rushed to her side, albeit still mentally scolding himself for the absolutely impossible deal that he had just set. Now he was tied down, quite literally burdened by a small, fragile human who he'd need to jump through Innumerable hoops to keep by his side.
He worked on healing her punctured lungs with his own blood, which held a surprising amount of healing qualities. A small bit of CPR was all that was needed to remove the rest of the blood. As soon as her breathing became clearer, he began working on her head. Her skull was fractured in so many places, he wasn't entirely sure he could even fix her as promised.
He'd only heard stories of shinigami saving humans, anyway.
He slowly repaired each and every crack until she was in visibly less pain. He caressed her hair, which was bloody and slightly sea-salt smelling. She nuzzled back into his touch, showing no signs of pain, and certainly not the agony he'd seen earlier.
He sighed, leaning back against the wall harboring the window he'd come in through.
Running his bloodied hands uncaringly through his hair, he locked eyes with her. She stared back, the intensity of his bright chartruse eyes giving her some sort of curious delight. Although clearly worn out, she sidled up to him.
"What do we do now?" She whispered, her voice still a little raw from screaming. She sat next to him with her head leaned on his shoulder. "Thank you for saving me,by the way."
"Hmmph. I don't know what to do with you know," He said irritably, taking her aback. She hadn't experienced the harsher side to his personality yet. He shoved her off more roughly then her honestly intended. He stood up, stretching his aching muscles. This was far more taxing than a regular reaping.
"Don't expect me to care about you that much. I see death all the time. You're hardly special, you know."
Except, in his mind, she was. Never in his 354 years had he ever experienced someone so determined to live that they simply kept.. living. He'd have to research it. For now, she was safe enough. Alive, at least. He could deal with the rest of it when he got some sleep and regained enough composure to fully comprehend what he had just agreed to.
..Oh, Y/n...don't you die on me.
He groaned, exiting the house without another word as the girl's family members flocked around her with medical staff.
He was going to have one hell of a time explaining this to Sascha.

sum. One of the many things you got as perks as Ludger's girlfriend is to see the infamous Professor's vulnerability.
note. i considered this as fluff since ludger throughout the webtoon is just a bright neon sign that says "i'm tired, just give me a hug"
He tells himself he won't be overusing his magic, yet when disaster strikes he always count on his pills to replenish the lost mana he had used to subdue his enemies.
Under normal circumstances, it's just his everyday life as a professor. But when you're in the picture, it's a different story
He was reluctant in crashing in your place, but he had no other choice if he didn't want to totally collapse out of exhaustion.
If he had to endure your earful rant, it's tolerable than passing out in the middle of nowhere. He hopes you won't break up with him the next day though.
"I'm sorry, you're supposed to be resting and you you don't need to do this, but here you are taking care of me." He sighed and relished the temporary bliss of your hands kneading his shoulders.
Truth to be told, it was his fault for disturbing your beauty rest in the midst of the witching hour after his little excursion of eliminating some criminals stirring trouble in the city.
If he really means you don't need to take care of him then he wouldn't have barged in your home. But with the time you spent with him, you know one thing, he always comes back to you.
"Now this is new, you actually know how to apologize?" You teased.
"Don't push your luck." He grumbled, head rested on your chest as he makes subtle eye contact with you from his upside down angle.
He admires you while your eyes caught blood stains on his suit, the fabric is too dark that it hides away the crimson splatter so it wasn't a surprise you only noticed it just now, your face soon contorted in concern, "Ludger, what is—"
"They're not mine." He promptly cut you off and groans when the aching burn in his chest reoccurs, "What's the matter?" Your hands halted from its ministration and intended to reangle his body.
"Just stay." He caught your wrist and places your hand back on his shoulder, indicating for you to resume, "But you're hurting. I want to know what's causing your discomfort." You expressed.
"You don't need to fret over it. Trust me, this happens every once a week or so and I know how to handle myself." He then proceeds to snuggle closer to you, clearly dismissing the topic.
Your only response is your rueful sigh and leaned against the bed frame to support your weight and his.
He did his best to convince you, but when you felt his temperature slowly increasing under your palm, you can't dismiss it any longer.
"You're catching fever, Ludger." You firmly stated.
He was ready for his rebuttal but you shut him down with a glare.
"You're staying here while I fetch for porridge and a medicine." He almost whines when you gently placed his head on the pillow and rushed in the kitchen.
He doesn't feel heavyweighted like a typical feverish person would, but when he checked his temperature boy did he got burned. He deduced he might have gotten it after over exerting his body. It's not an impossible guess considering he deals with teenagers who just hit puberty by day and eradicates foolish criminals by night. If anything, he deserves that sweet resignation letter already.
You emerge minutes later with what you told him and practically commanded him to sit up and eat. All this while, you noticed the slight upturn of his lips, "What are you smirking at?" You perched your eyebrow, nothing good ever comes with his unusual mischief.
"It's delightful to see you worry over me. A mage who every student in the Academy respects and every professor envies. I'm the least person on anyone's mind to be worried about, yet you're here, feeding me porridge in my blood soaked suit."
Your cheeks instantly flamed, that's one out of the three times you ever see him so open about his feelings. But you also know he's doing this to get a reaction from you, which he successfully did.
"If you can talk in that state then I have no doubt no one should be worried about you." You snorted and shoved a spoonful of hot soup in his mouth without a warning and he yelped, almost choking.
"I feel pity for your future patients." He glared at you.
"You should pity yourself first before anyone, now drink." You handed him a glass of water and medicine for his fever.
With one last glare, he complied to your commands, "I followed your instructions, now we cuddle."
You grimaced, "You're sick, I don't want to catch your fever."
"It's only a mild fever caused by overworking, it's not that severe."
"I'll cuddle with you once your temperature goes down. Sleep."
He sighed, "I wonder what the students are going to think if they see me like this." You rolled your eyes, but a sudden lightbulb lit up, "Sleep, or I'll document everything that happened here and sell it to the journalists. You don't want that now, do you?"
He doesn't seem that threatened and only slumped on your bed and was fast asleep after a few minutes.
You decided against your better judgement and joined in to cuddle with him the rest of the night. You could've sworn something soft pecked the top of your head as you sleep overtakes you.
A small sigh escaped from my lips as Sascha appeared around the corner once again to greet me. For being neighbors, Sascha acted like I was a long lost twin, prancing happily up to me with Ludger, who looked as if he was being dragged.
"HIYA Y/NNNN!!!!"
"Hi, Sascha."
Ludger's exhausted expression said it all: Sascha had been at peak high-energy all day, likely bouncing around other dispatch members as well.
Ludger blushed. "It's nice to see you. Again. Just like yesterday. Umm..."
I smiled. He was horrible at small talk, but at least Sascha was always there to fill in the gaps.
"Oooooooh!!! I smell ~romanccce~!!!" Sniggering, Sascha opened the door to their cheap apartment and slammed it in Ludger's face.
"You're not allowed to come in until you two kiss!! Goodniiiiiight!!" As Sascha turned the lock, Ludger awkwardly looked for his keys, which Sascha had apparently grabbed from him on the way in.
"S-Sascha!!" He turned a more violent shade of red, whether from embarrassment or anger I didn't really know.
He straightened his tie. "*ahem*. Well, Y/n, would you like to get dinner?"
"I suppose.. can't we just tell Sascha we kissed?" I whispered in a low voice.
"I heard that!!" Came a voice from the other side of the door.
Ludger sighed. "It doesn't really matter. I can't lie to her, she's just too good at pulling the truth out of me."
I laughed awkwardly.
"Eh, yeah.."
He put searched his pockets, pulling out a pack of cigarettes and a lighter. He looked at me, while I actively watched him with a disapproving look. Sighing, he stashed it back into his blazer, hands returning to his hips.
