“SOULFUL SUNRISE MELODY”
by Luis Sanchez
Luis Sanchez started painting at 15, after years spent watching his father with a brush in hand, but he says that while painting has been the primary focus of his professional life, it’s not actually his first passion. By age 15 Sanchez had already been sculpting for 10 years, starting with making his own toys—and in recent years the pull of sculpting has once again exerted its pull changing the trajectory of his practice. In the meantime, however, the Mexico City-born artist found himself living in San Pedro, California where the San Pedro Waterfront Arts District with the support of the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, invited Sanchez to be a part of a major neighborhood improvement project. Designed to provide a safer and more attractive environment, Sanchez was commissioned to paint this celebration of San Pedro’s diverse arts history in the Lilyan Fierman Walkway next to the historic Warner Grand Theatre on 6th St. @luissanchezfineart @sanpedroart.association @scenesfromthesidewalk
