What happens when you're not looking at your twitter account for a while, is that you'll miss awesome stuff like this song. It's Uncle Luc's first single "I Write". Before you know it, you'll find yourself nodding your head in the rhythm of the song and humming along the melody. It's catchy. I guess, it's a song about being a musician.

If this voice sounds familiar to you, it's because he was also the singer of Stagecoach. Uncle Luc is Luke Barhams newest distraction...sweet for us, I must say. And shame on me if I would have missed it! Just in time I rediscovered twitter to find out he'll play the Boilerroom in Guildford, England, on the 28th of May and in Nottingham on the 5th of June. And, uhm, this Sunday in Los Angeles during Brit Week? Well, you might meet me in Guildford, not L.A. but that's way cool, isn't it?

Best of 2012 list: #1 Luke Joseph Barham (Stagecoach)

As we all know: the end is near and that can only mean one thing: lists! Best of the year lists. As one list by me would be pretty boring, I just asked some of my favourite musicians and artist of this year to give me theirs and to my very own surprise everyone I asked said yes! I am very happy to present a new list every day until New Years Eve and they are as different as the people themselves. Get excited!

The first list is by the person who started this whole idea by giving his list away on twitter: Luke Joseph Barham of Stagecoach. I am loving this band since they released "We Got Tazers" in 2009 but it took me until this summer to see them live and be absolutely amazed afterwards (read here more). They are a really tight, energetic power pop rock band.

Tennis –Young & Old

I hadn’t really heard much of Tennis before I saw them play at Rough Trade. I had time to kill before the cinema, seemed like a good plan. Everyone loves a free gig right in a shop right? I wasn’t expecting too much as what I’d heard prior to this was laid back 50’s guitar pop. Totally pleasant but nothing special. I fell in love and purchased the record as soon as the band they put their instruments down. It hasn’t really left my record player since. It’s more evolved than the debut in that they’ve found their own sound. I can’t wait to hear what they do next!

The Walkmen -Heaven

I’ve been a fan of this band for about 10 years. They have always done things exactly how they wanted and not bowed to trends. Initially they got written off by many of as another Strokes but over time have grown out of the NYC garage band tag they once carried. Hamilton’s crooner vocal styling’s have become the real focus and heart to the songs. With Heaven they’ve also added some brilliant harmonies they hadn’t often featured on their records before. Seeing them perform these songs live was certainly my live highlight of the year. A great band that get better with age... like wine.

The Staves –Dead & Born & Grown

Many moons ago we ran a monthly club night at The Good Ship in Kilburn and had these 3 sisters open the show one time. The eldest must of been about 18 at the time. Myself and Matt had to pick our jaws up off the floor after the show as the harmonies were some of the most charming I’d ever heard. All went quiet for about 3 years and then from nowhere they returned with a record deal, a load of new songs and sounded even better than we remembered. I love this album and would heartily recommend it if you are a fan of Gillian Welch, Be Good Tanya’s and the that West Coast/Laurel Canyon sound. It is produced by Ethan and Glynn John’s and is the first time they have worked together.

The Year Ahead

I’m most excited about a new Phoenix record in 2013. It seems years now since breakthrough record ‘Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix’ came out. It was awesome to see them finally get credit and fans they so badly deserved. That record is a modern classic in my mind and I don’t think I’ve been more excited about a release since Gene followed up Olympian in 1997. I’ll also be looking out for the Joanna Gruesome debut and records from My First Tooth, Aluna George and Caitlin Rose. We will be releasing our long overdue debut this year too. It was produced by Rory Attwell and recorded on a Lightship on the Thames. We’re very proud of it and believe it is an evolution in the Stagecoach sound.
