Marvel Comics announce new Luke Cage digital series and MARVEL DECADES Collections

Marvel today announced some new releases coming soon to their digital library, as well as to comic book shops.

The first announcement today was a new Luke Cage digital series that is now available. The series titled LUKE CAGE from writer Anthony Del Col will feature art from Jahnoy Lindsay and Ian Herring, and cover art from Declan Shalvey and Jordie Bellaire.

Tearjerker - “Getting By”

Tearjerker create rich, spiraling whirlpools of layered sounds that taper forever toward a blissful state. The colour of their sound often urges an intimate listening experience ("Really Into You"), but sometimes you need to put their songs in your ear while you journey through the city.

On "Getting By", you can hear the rhythm of the city coded directly into its eternal keys and drifting percussion. Spend enough time in any metropolis, and you'll find moments where you become shielded from those around you. The isolation is only made stronger by the condition of people in your vicinity. In our own little bubbles, we feel the weight of a long day in the office, the uncanny calm of a snowed-out day, the hollowed chest of a futile relationship, all compounded. Singer Micah Bonte softly recites a hymn that strengthens this barrier. While the space within may be fueled by downer energy, there's a force to "Getting By" that reveals a positive truth hidden deep within...even getting by is still moving forward.

Lomelda - “Out There”

We know nothing about what comes next. We can make short term projections, but even they sometimes fail. As for the long road, and the arcane darkness that shrouds its end...that is an impenetrable mystery.

Long drives have a special way of setting the spirit in a way that embraces such mystic expanses. As Lomelda, Hannah Read channels road trip headspace into a peaceful examination of distance in all its measure. "Here I sit in darkness / Waiting for what's out there / I don't know what's out there" Read sings over guitars and soft percussion sketched on the horizon. The form and flexibility of her voice is such that it hugs the full span of emotion, from the lowest dip of loneliness to the upper limits of calm. We are small, and there is serenity in acceptance of that truth.

Annie Hart - “I Don’t Want Your Love”

"I don't want to go on as a copy of a copy." It's the first time Annie Hart uses repetition on "I Don't Want Your Love", and it lands as the first petals fall from an eternally blossoming tree of synth tones. As vivid colours unveil deep shadows, Hart zooms in to discover the fractal nature of the beat, the copies upon copies, and on and on.

Hart is a master of resonance, at times letting her voice hug the emotion of a sound, at times keen to let it reveal itself. Though minimalist stylings shape the sound, the feelings invoked are maximum.

Annie Hart will release Impossible Accomplice July 28.

Mrs. Hopewell - “Alpha Rats Quarterback”

Some relationships make specimens of our feelings. When it ends, we're left with a garage full of jars and pin boards, each emotion set to its own place with the range of highs and lows preserved. Whether you choose to visit the collection often, or allow it to gather dust, there will come a time when you empty the jars and pull down the pins to let everything fall to a heap on the floor, much like the relationship it all represents.

On "Alpha Rats Quarterback", Christopher Nicastro as Mrs. Hopewell tears everything down in a cleansing fit. Like the settling memories, everything sways from messy to bright in layered glory. Clean guitars pierce slabbed strums, as Nicastro's own vocals drag torn recollection over triumphant ooh's and ba-ba-ba's. And like "Alpha Rats Quarterback", the undeniable, and unexplainable bliss of reliving such heartbreak is the reason you press play again, and rebuild that specific collection of feelings.

An Interview with Kevin Devine

Last time we caught up with Kevin Devine, he had just released two albums (Bubblegum and Bulldozer). Since then, he released a 6 issue vinyl split series, a new full length studio album (Instigator), and has continued to tour both solo, and with a full band. Over the past 15 plus years, Kevin has explored a unique path through the music industry, that has allowed him to make a living doing what he loves. With each release he discovers new listeners, while creating stronger ties to those who have listened to his music for years. In Buffalo during a solo leg of tour, Luke caught up with Kevin to discuss his songwriting process, and what still surprises him about writing and releasing music, now nine studio albums into his career.

The War On Drugs - “Holding On”

You'll never get higher. The War On Drugs have announced their new album A Deeper Understanding with "Holding On", an endless upward push of cleansing guitars and glimmering synths. Wonder blooms throughout, with glockenspiel dings and vibrant sweeps of the slide guitar billowing under Adam Granduciel as he shuns the past ("Now I'm headed down a different road / Can we walk it side by side?")

The War On Drugs will release A Deeper Understanding August 25 via Atlantic Records.
