“Han, have you seen Luke anywhere?” You ask your friend who is currently working on top of his ship.
“Kid? No. Why?” He questions and you shake your head in attempt of brushing it off.
“It’s probably nothing. It’s just he hasn’t checked back in from his mission and it’s getting late… and cold. Well colder.” you say and Han thinks about what you said before jumping down and pulling the closest person in asking if they had seen Luke. With everything turning up empty and the sun setting Han decided to go out and look for him, despite your pleas Han refuses having you come along and leaves alone. Leia and you were left at the base with only one thing to do which was worrying about Han and Luke.
“Luke is very lucky to have someone like you,” Leia says a few hours into your wait for Han and Luke to come back to base. You look over at her and blush quickly looking down at your hands.
“Me? No, I’m nothing, simply a friend.” You say stumbling over your words making Leia smile softly at you, she had caught onto your feelings for Luke a few weeks into your stay on the base and she thought it was a great thing, Luke needed someone good for him and she believed you were it.
“You are more than a normal friend. Han and I are his friends and we didn’t even notice that he hadn’t come back, without Luke could have been left alone all night. That simple detail has saved his life.” Leia says and you shake your head your mind going back to Luke alone in the cold Hoth landscape.
“If he is alive. Leia it is freezing out there what if we were too late?” You question and she shakes her head not even willing to listen to the possibility.
“He is alive. I can just feel it. Han and he will be coming through that door at any moment just you see.” Leia says and you can’t help but smile at her optimism.
Hours passed by with no sleep before it was morning and a search party of x-wings was sent out in search of Han and Luke. You wait nervously at the door awaiting the return of the ship that had located the two, you were anxious to make sure the two of there were alive and well. Once the ship landed Luke was quickly taken out and taken to the medical wing to be treated for his hypothermia. Han was okay thankfully and filled you in on his condition. Walking along with Han and Leia you go to the medical wing where Luke was in a tank of water in his underwear along with some wires attached to him along with an oxygen supply.
After Luke was woken up you go to the room where he is staying until he is cleared to be sent to his own bed. You can’t help but sigh with relief at seeing Luke awake and smiling on the bed.
“Well if it isn’t my hero.” Luke grins once he notices you enter the room. “Without you I would be a popsicle.” You giggle and shake your head sitting on the end of his bed.
“Someone has to keep track of you.” You say and he smiles, out of the corner of your eye you notice Leia whispering to Han before the two of them wish Luke a goodbye before leaving the two of you alone. Leia turns to you before leaving and points to Luke before giving you a thumbs up. “How are you feeling?” I ask and he smiles again at you looking away down to his lap where is hands are.
“I’m fine, I’m good.” He says and you notice something is off.
“What is it?” You ask and he chuckles not knowing why he thought he could get anything past you.
“I want to continue my Jedi training.” He says. “Ben. He keeps speaking to me, telling me to go to Dagobah and find Jedi Master Yoda.” He confesses. You did not know much about the Jedi since you were told they had gone extinct before you were born but you knew deep down in your heart that Luke was to become a Jedi Master. It was his destiny.
“Dagobah is a long ways away.” You say with a sad smile, Luke truly was your best friend and it was going to hurt to tell him goodbye but you had to trust that the two of you would meet again.
“It is, but I will be back. Don’t think that it is that easy to get rid of me.” He jokes making you laugh softly. Luke frowns noticing your change in demeanor. “What’s wrong.” He asks and you shake your head with a small smile.
“Nothing.” You say and he looks at you his blue eyes looking right into yours making it hard to fight a blush. Something in your mind was saying that this was your moment, your time to tell Luke of your feelings, something about not having to see him after saying this for a while will make it easier to handle the rejection.
“Come on, since when do we keep secrets?” He jokes and you can’t help but laugh.
“Luke, I don’t know how to say it.” You admit and he looks at you with confusion.
“What is it?” He asks beginning to be worried about what is bothering you. Not being able to think of any words you lean in and grab the sides of his face gently before pressing your lips to his. After a second you pull away your face bright red realizing what you had just done.
“O-oh, I’m so sorry, I just…” You were cut off by Luke pulling you in again to kiss, this time he takes the lead making it last longer than the first.
“I have been wanting to do that for years.” He chuckles, making you giggle your face still flushed. “I’m just mad that you beat me to it.”
“Maybe you shouldn’t be so slow Skywalker.” You joke and he chuckles grabbing you around the waist dragging you closer to cuddle him.
“Better late than never.” He says and kisses you lightly on your forehead as the two of you lay together before eventually falling asleep.
