Maybe I'm stupid and this was really obvious but I just realized that the local soul flies in hollow knight are based on the gods that influence the area

Hallownest has LUMAflies because the pale king emits light

And Pharloom has SILKflies because of Grand Silkmother

For anyone looking to do some fun modded stuff with Hollow Knight, I recommend using Lumafly. It's a mod installer and manager that folks have put a lot of work into to make it easy to use.

You can browse through mods and quickly install them. You can also install unlisted mods if you have some of those you want to include too.

I know with Silksong right around the corner, folks are probably going to do fewer hk things for a while, but while I had this on my mind, I figured I'd make this post.

Custom Knight is one of the mods included, though you will have to personally download the skins and paste them into the proper folder. There should be instructions for this in the CK readme
