        EVEN  with the tracks left by her tears prominently on display, her voice only slightly wavers. Lyn manages a small smile as she tears her gaze from the lantern bobbing idly along the bay. Her people weigh heavily on her mind, more so than usual, and it is perhaps with them in mind that she doesn’t bother to brush off her raw emotion; women could be vulnerable without compromising their strength, and with their strength could lead just as easily as a man. 

        If only that knowledge had been innate.

     He was running alongside an unlikely ally, one he hadn’t expected not because they were on bad terms, but because he’d had no idea she fought so well. It had been a pleasant surprise, as had running into Eirika again during a time where he would have given much to see a familiar face. They had a common goal, or at least one of their objectives lined up. 

     “Last I saw, there was a group of people being chased by monsters not too far from here,” he explained as they sprinted. “If they didn’t stray too far from the safe zone we came from, this should be easy!” He was actually able to bite back his urge to gloat, desire to say they can’t lose now that he’s here. That would have to be the fastest way to make a bad impression.

     “And then I think this one is a history book. It’s pretty big... Not sure where this ‘Australia’ is supposed to be though. Maybe it’s a made up country after all.”

To his surprise, someone had taken interest in all the books he’d managed to scavenge. What had first been an effort to keep to himself had soon turned into a group activity. Despite initial hesitation, the other’s genuine curiosity quickly got him to open up. 

It was always nice to find someone who shared your hobbies.

     “They’re technically not mine, so you can take any of them. Just leave one or three for me to read, okay?”
