cw: self-ship coded. established relationship. child with a name and one on the way. platonic!zoro x reader, romantic!luffy x reader
You don’t expect a ton of reactions when you finally announce what everyone has been suspecting for the past couple of weeks, between a few bouts of indigestion after breakfast, excess napping and mild irritability above the norm, but what you don’t expect is Zoro’s amused chuckle.
“Took you long enough.”
He learns that you and Luffy are expecting for the second time separately from the group having missed the first announcement while sleeping in the crow’s nest and the four of you including you, Luffy, Zoro and your existing son Kaze, are now together on the terrace of the Thousand Sunny just as the sun sets.
Luffy laughs at Zoro’s comment, his arm slung around you tightening proudly and affectionately, while you gape at Zoro, surprised. The swordsman stands while the two of you sit, bouncing your nearly four-year-old son Kaze up and down as he hangs off his left arm, and Kaze is only quiet now, no longer excitedly proclaiming your pregnancy at the top of his lungs, because he’s trying to do a pull-up on his godfather’s outstretched arm the way he’s seen him do countless times before.
“Are you keeping tabs on our level of intimacy, Zoro?” you finally reply, now that you’ve found acceptable coded language to tell Zoro not to make jokes about how often you and Luffy fuck, but this doesn’t work as well because Kaze stops struggling for a moment and looks towards the two of you.
“Mommy, what’s in-ti-ma-cy?”
Zoro lets out a snort as he sets Kaze down, while the child, wide-eyed, stands still and looks around for a response. Luffy grins then looks towards you as you try to keep your face from growing hot.
“Well, it’s when-” your mouth opens and closes, unsure of how to explain as complex a concept of this, particularly given the context in which you used the word, but Luffy extends his arms long to swipe the child into his grasp and distracts him quickly with tickles, and the boy giggles tremendously, and finally Luffy presses his cheek against his.
“Hey, go tell me what Usopp is doing right now, and report back, okay?” Luffy asks.
Kaze forgets all about ‘intimacy’ and runs off quickly, always delighted to have an opportunity to see one of Usopp’s many ‘toys’, and Luffy turns back to you.
“Saved ya,” he says, now that Kaze is fully out of earshot.
You roll your eyes at Luffy, but he presses a kiss to your cheek, then turns back to Zoro.
“Glad you’re welcoming more crew members finally!” he teases. Zoro’s face suddenly reddens.
“It’s just livelier around here, okay?” Zoro replies. Luffy grins and nods emphatically.
Zoro watches the two of you for a moment then twists his mouth to the side. Slowly, he moves over to sit and you and Luffy shift to include him. For a few moments, the three of you sit quietly, the moonlit sea ahead the focus of your gazes. Luffy squeezes your hand gently and you lay your head on his shoulder.
“Do you guys have a name yet?” Zoro asks. He doesn’t turn to look at you both yet.
You and Luffy exchange a glance.
“We’ll take suggestions for now,” you offer. Luffy nods in agreement.
“Girl or boy?” he asks.
“Too early to know.”
Zoro gives Luffy a grimace, as though embarrassed for even asking, but Luffy just shrugs. Zoro shakes his head then gives himself a moment to think. You watch his eyebrows knit together and giggle quietly at the drama of his concentration for something so benign. Zoro takes another glance at your slightly rounded belly, still obscured by looser clothing for now, then presses his lips into a thin line.
“For a boy, Kai. For a girl, Kessa.”
Luffy laughs.
“That’s too many K names, it’s like a circus troupe!”
Zoro flushes then argues.
“Well, it’s not like you aren’t a fucking clown!” he quips back. You can’t help but laugh as Zoro crosses his arms, pressing his back further into the couch then thinks again.
“Fine! For a girl, Himari.”
Luffy doesn’t let up.
“Sounds like Hiyori, you’re not very original, Zoro,” he giggles.
You slap Luffy on the chest, defensively. “Stop! Himari’s a beautiful name,” you insist. Turning your head back to Zoro, you nod.
“I love Himari, that’s going to the top of the list.”
Zoro rolls his eyes, but is secretly pleased.
From the other end of the ship, you can hear what sounds like an explosion, and while you are alarmed for a half second - neither of the pirates flanking you alarmed for even a millisecond - you can hear Kaze’s loud laughter and Usopp shouting something unintelligible from the distance.
You sigh.
“It’s lively indeed,” you add, and give Zoro a look, and his grin is almost as wide as Luffy’s.
