lo comforting donnelly during the superbowl get together scene is the peak of character development and you cannot change my mind. we went from lo being a alcoholic who (especially in addicted to you) was a complete asshole and said the worse things just to hurt people for the hell of it to now (nobody like us) he is sitting comforting his daughters boyfriend (who he could hate and have valid reasons to hate him) but instead reassuring him that nothing that happened to luna in misfits like us was his fault. getting angry and even protective (at least that's what I am getting from it) over donnelly's situation growing up and his father being the way he is.
like he uses his experience to comfort donnelly and if you've read all the books in the addicted series you know that man was going through hell and back when it came to his feelings and relationship with his father. he comforted donnelly the same way he comforted garrison in skop and bad rep duet when he found out his brothers were hurting him and his parents didn't care enough to step in and acknowledge the real issue. him telling donnelly 'why are you expecting so damn much from yourself' 'youre doing your best. it's enough' and 'she's not in pain. she's the happiest I've seen her in a long time'
LIKE LOREAN MOTHER FUCKING HALE SAYING THOSE THINGS TO SOMEONE, THOSE THINGS THAT HIM HIMSELF WHEN HE WAS IN HIS 20S FIGHTING ADDICTION AND RELAPSING AND DEALING WITH EVERYTHING KBR PUT HIM THROUGH NEEDED TO HEAR BACK THEN, WHEN HE WAS BLAMING HINSELF FOR LILY'S ADDICTION, WHEN HE ENDED UP IN THE HOSPITAL BECAUSE HE COULDN'T HANDLE THE RUMORS ABOUT HIS FATHER ANYMKRE THAT HE DRANK A WHOLE BOTTLE OF LIQUOR ANS PASSES OUT ON THE KITCHEN FLOOR, LOREAN MOTHERFUCKING HALE IS SAYING THESE THINGS TO SOMEONE WHO IS SO SIMILAR TO HIM ON SO MANY WAYS YET SO DIFFERENT!!!
him being that comfort for someone is the most beautiful thing to read about and will never fail to make me ugly sob because he was truly made to be a father and knowing that at one point he had that talk with Lily saying they shouldn't have kids?! BEAUTIFUL! COMPELLING! A MASTERPIECE! ART IF YOU ASK ME!! LOREN HALE IS THE FACE OF CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT!
