Final additions
The publication is in the final stages, other members of the collaboration are putting together the layout which has led to a few additional requests for illustrations. This has included a few extra food items and more hands illustrations providing context for quote pages.
the thrush page also required a few changes including extra spot illustrations to the causes and a change of content for the symptoms as the previous imagery was too explicit.
development
Now we have the text and the layout is coming together, I’ve been able to make much more progress on some pages.
Back cover
Sophie was really happy with the front cover and had no suggestions for changes! So I worked onwards and completed the back cover too.
the spine has been left blank until we know the correct width that it will be, then I will make the plants follow around the book
First draft cover for collab
the top of the image has been left blank to allow for the title which is still undecided.
vaginal hygiene cover
So we started the cover today, the approach is to have 3 girls with different skin tones, to show diversity. The girls will be surrounded by plants to make suggestions at the all natural products, the back cover will then have the same girls in the same poses, but from behind.
I wanted to play around with different poses to make sure I got the perfect one, the main concern was showing the direct topic of vaginal hygiene rather than the general theme of femininity.
So after asking a few people for guidance, even though the 2nd row of options are aesthetically nicer to look at, I decided to include the main person holding a mirror at their vagina, the other girls will also be holding related objects such as knickers and one of the LUSH products.
First mock up.
collab update
We now have the font and will soon have the text so we are getting a much better idea of the layouts. We’ve also decided its now an a4 publication rather than a zine so we want there to be much more empty space so its not all crammed on and will do some page with plain backgrounds. So I’ve edited all of the files to suit this, and from now on the ball is in Sophie’s court to organise the layout.
A few more small spot illustrations are still required but these will be established once the text is ready. The only other BIG job for this project is the front and back cover which will also be made into an A2 poster, so this image is really important!
new pages for collab project
These are the beginning of 3 new pages for the vaginal hygiene collab, on Friday we are meeting with a creative writing student to finalise the wording of pages and once this is done we can start finalising more pages!
