(A not-rant, but rather, the nonsensical ramblings of the madman that is Me. Not meant for any audience.)
Whitepine is really fucking awesome and I really like how the queer characters are written and especially the backlash against it in-universe. In the secret episode, Ivory was disowned by her family and removed from her own home because she was a lesbian (or at least wlw). Her family even called her a slur as she ran. When Zombie Hemlocke discovered his son, Pyroscythe, was queer (mlm), he had been picked on and ridiculed and set up with female personal assistants (Zam has a male assistant, Muu and Izzy have female assistants), possibly in hopes of " converting him back into being straight " .
My little headcanon is that homosexuality / same sex marriage & relationships are illegal or at the very least heavily frowned upon / is regarded as sin in whitepine, taking this & the timeline that wp is set in into consideration.
And then there's Bitotter & the fact that he is genderqueer! She doesn't fit into any sort of gender norm, and she doesn't it to be discovered for fear of how it would be taken. I dont remember too much about the reveal, but its also relevant to this post because it just puts into perspective how these people are treated just because they are "other".
This is mostly a yap about the queerness, theres stuff ab disability / neurodivergence, age, class et cetera i could ramble on about but im far too tired & cramping too much to think about dat. Tl dr Whitepine chars are very well written and very human and thats what makes wp so beautiful.
