Luxxai, Asura Chronomancer

Very little is known about the petite mesmer named Luxxai. Sharing a face with a Pact mesmer named Nixxe, the official story is that she’s Nixxe’s long lost twin, one who had been raised in secrecy under difficult circumstances, returning to the outside world after the death of her sister.

Of course, like in all war stories, people will always talk. Nixxe’s mother had always insisted she only had one child. So they say Nixxe faked her death in Maguuma when the Pact airships went down, and that the woman with her face is in fact Nixxe, but hiding her identity to avoid being listed as AWOL and facing the consequences of her actions.

But the evidence seems to tell a different story, one of obsession, infatuation, and loss. And while the rest of the world may never know the true story, those on Nixxe’s old krewe will whisper the facts to one another in hushed whispers over steaming drinks:

Reko, the head of a small medical krewe Nixxe once served on, had refused to believe the woman he loved was dead. When her body was returned to Rata Sum, breathing but braindead, he made a desperate gamble with untested technology their krewe had been developing. But bringing a lost spirit into a shell of a body is an untested science.

And the woman now wearing Nixxe’s face calls herself Luxxai... and she says she was a soldier, like Nixxe herself... but one who died defending Rata Novus nearly two centuries before...

“Just leave him, Luxxai! He’s not gonna make it, and we need your sword!”

Everything around her was sharp. The scrape of chak claws against stone and their ear-splitting shrieks, echoing in the cavern, amidst the cacophony of trundling attack golems and the frantic pings of nearby mesmer magic.

Luxxai’s hands were under the arms of Dhennix, one of her closest friends, dragging him into the safety of this spot. Their last resort. He was bleeding heavily from a wound to his side, gasping for air to lungs she knew were starting to fail.

“I’m not going to let him die down a chak’s gullet,” the warrior spat back, her ears pulling back sharply. Her pale hair, lovingly plaited into neat braids by her wife just that morning, had fallen from its elaborate pins, cascading into her face. “Least we can do is let him die among friends.”

She didn’t look up when Braj scoffed, pulling Dhennix to the back of the cavern they’d holed up in. By the time she’d laid him down, his breathing had stilled, and his eyes - still open - stared blank at the ceiling. It wasn’t that Luxxai had never seen death, but Dhennix had always been good to her family. Her daughter even called him uncle. Letting out a shaky breath, she reached down to close his eyes for the last time, pressing her hand against his forehead before rushing back to the others…

Luxxai is probably my only character who gets along pretty well with Zojja, but in all fairness, Luxxai hadn’t even heard of her until like a week ago so.

She’s a little starstruck when she learns more about her.
