Nighto request: Vocan/Audrey Highschool AU

This was supposed to be funnier with way more book related pickup lines. SUPER LATE, BUT I WROTE IT. 

She wondered what he was doing in the library, flipping through random books. He was there like clockwork when her shift started, staying almost as late as Audrey herself. Sometimes she thought his gaze could be felt on her back when it was turned, but a covert glance back revealed him to be absorbed in his latest eclectic selection. (She had to wonder how much random knowledge he’d gathered since the beginning of the school year.) He never approached her, not even when she began to take care to pass by him for a closer look.

Her curiosity grew as winter vacation drew nearer and as her curiosity grew, so too did her anticipation to see him. Her father noticed it first, joking about when she would bring home her boyfriend for him to meet. (After which, she made his least favorite foods for a solid week as punishment.) Her childhood friend, Kaju, commented on her preoccupation. They hadn’t been spending as much time together between football practice and her job in the library. She promised to make more time for him, but kept the reason for her preoccupation to herself.

The day before winter break began the mysterious senior missed his usual appearance. Audrey tried not to let it show how much it disappointed her that he wasn’t there. When he still hadn’t appeared by the end of her shift, the blonde felt deeply disappointed. She didn’t even know his name and she still felt like she’d been rejected. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Audrey hung her head and trudged out of the library and into the cold and snow.

Cold droplets landed on her face, she shook them off and raised her head to look up into the overcast sky. Her eyes closed against the snow falling down, enjoying the brisk air and the tickling of the flakes. It could have been minutes or an hour later that the wind was suddenly blocked. She opened her eyes.

He hadn’t changed any since she saw him only a day ago, though he was now wearing a heavy brown jacket and a knitted scarf. His smile was as bright as she had expected (hoped) it to be. Tentatively, she smiled back.

“Hello,” she said, quietly, nervously. His smile became wider.

“Hullo,” he replied, blue eyes sparkling with amusement. Audrey wet her lips and shuffled awkwardly.

“I have seen you in the library,” she said, clutching at the straps of her backpack and praying she doesn’t sound like a fool. He nodded, seeming not to mind her awkwardness.

“I’ve seen you too,” he said, and suddenly he’s looking a bit awkward and strangely it makes her feel better to know that she isn’t the only one affected. “I was wondering… could I walk you home?”

This time it was Audrey who smiled wide and bright.

“I’d like that.”

Later that night, she’ll receive a text that makes her laugh loud enough to make her father tease her the next morning.

  Her response will only take a few seconds to type, but the response it will bring keeps them both up all night.
