Thanks to my bud Mark Damon and the LVCVA I covered two 4th of July holiday events yesterday and got my fill of the celebration complete with a parade, music and fireworks. Wandered about the 24th annual Summerlin Council Patriotic Parade In Summerlin and it amazes me how people can love them so much they will scout out a spot and set up a day or two beforehand. Guess some folks love them more than others? Clearly the biggest draw was Vegas Golden Knights standout player Deryk Engelland and family greeting attendees from atop the “Vegas Golden Knights: Vegas Born, Vegas Strong” float. 

Had a break in between and enjoyed an afternoon Independence Day pool party for the Breakaway team folks and family at Mark and Joanna’s place and that was awesome as usual. Some tasty food and drinks along with some lively conversation!

Finished up the night with the Mystic Roots Band performing before a large crowd at Mandalay Bay Beach concluding with a short fireworks show there by the Pyritz Fireworks company. Not a bad way to come back into town after a week away traveling about southern and eastern Utah. A good run I’m having!

Covered the Las Vegas Aces versus the Seattle Storm during their WNBA season opening game at the Mandalay Bay Events Center tonight for the LVCVA. Was a decent crowd and I hope for them it flourishes here, guessing time will tell. Performers from the hit show Michael Jackson One by Cirque du Soleil warmed up the fans outside, Boys II Men performed the National Anthem and they even had the starting 5 players enter through smoke. They have a rabbit mascot named Bucket$, a dance team and head coach in former NBA player Bill Laimbeer. The game appeared a blow out though the Aces brought it back to just 4 before the Storm added a few more to win it. Good night.

Las Vegas Convention Center New West Hall Expansion

The Las Vegas Convention Center expansion starts its concrete pour at the new exhibit West Hall.

Construction workers on behalf of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) commenced the extensive process of pouring 600,000 square feet of concrete flooring in the main exhibit hall in the new West Hall expansion of the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC).
