Zelda walked down the long white halls of the hospital, she was visiting with the elderly who were spending their last days in a hospital bed. No matter how many times she came here, it always saddened her heart to know how sick some of the people were and that their families were absent for one reason or another. She made her way to the nurses station, leaning over the counter and looked around the lobby before turning her attention to the woman behind the desk. “Never any down time huh” she exhaled a laugh, adjusting the lanyard around her neck that had her badge with Volunteer printed at the top over her scrubs. “Yeah, Mr. Denton looks worse today” she frowned “He thought I was his granddaughter” she sighed, looking out the window and noticing how dark the sky had gotten since arriving that morning. “It’s about to be a bad storm” she remarked.
Not a moment after her comment a flash of lightening and crack of thunder moved across the sky, the power flickering before completely shutting off and the united sound of gasps and murmurs filled the room. Zelda looked around, sighing softly as the loud hum of the generator kicked on, lighting the hospital dimly. “Okay everyone, just a minor power outage. The generators will run until we have power again” she said as other nurses began getting things in order. “Calm down” she said. “If theres anything I can do for anyone or help anyone with, My name is Zelda and I would be happy to do what I can.” she offered.
