Stupid. pt 1
Summary: You and your old best friend, Steve Harrington, fell out. You don’t know if it’s because he kept trying to find love that wasn’t you, or if he just hated the fact of stringing you along. Or maybe it was because you told him how you felt about him. Either way, you couldn’t take it. It was your senior year, you wanted to go out with a bang. With real, true friends. That’s when you let two freshman convince you to join their club, and that’s when you finally met the infamous Eddie Munson. Who is somehow helpful when you run into Steve again after not speaking to him for almost a year. You might just end up having to choose…

Something in your head was telling you this didn’t feel right. You were in the video store, making out with Eddie Munson. The Freak. Of course, given the circumstances of your current situation with Steve wouldn’t have led to this very moment.
You seriously went out of your way to make Steve jealous? What were you thinking? …Did it work?
You steal a glance from the corner of your eye, while Eddie’s lips were still on yours. You didn’t make eye contact with him, but you also couldn’t read his face. Did he even see you?
You close your eyes to focus on Eddie, which was probably a mistake because wow, now you’re deepening it by parting his lips with your tongue, snaking your arms around his neck, pulling him closer and oh my god, was he always this good of a kiss-
You’re interrupted by the devil himself.
“Y/N?” He taps your shoulder and even with your eyes closed, you recognized his voice and felt your shoulder burning where he tapped you.
You pull away, panting and steal a glance at Eddie before you look at Steve. He was looking smug while Steve looked concerned.
You guess you took a while to respond when he said your name again, more stern than before and sighing when you didn’t say anything once again. “Can we talk?” He asked carefully, glancing at the two of you. “..Alone.” He quickly added.
Eddie chuckled. “We’re a little busy, as you can see.” He smirked as he put an arm around you, walking you out of the store.
Your mouth was still gaping when you walked out, with Eddie hanging off of you.
“I- It was-“ You tried to stammer out an explanation. It was the fair thing to do since you and Eddie were just supposed to go there to rent some movies for movie night with the entire Hellfire Club. When you guys got to the actual video store, you hadn’t realize that Steve worked there with his new found friend, Robin. When she asked if you guys needed any help, you instantly recognized her and panicked, knowing damn well Steve would be with her since they were ‘best friends’ and all.
Then you glanced behind her and only saw a head full of hair since the shelf behind her was blocking him entirely, except the top of his head. You didn’t even have to see his face to recognize him!
And when you did, you ordered Eddie to kiss you. You don’t know why you did, but the fact that he didn’t even hesitate made you wonder.
Eddie laughed at your pathetic stuttering. “What was that about?”
You groan, frustrated at his stupid smug face. “Look, i’m sorry, okay?” You huff and start to walk away.
Eddie stays back dumbfounded. He takes a minute to realize that you’re actually upset that things didn’t turn out the way you wanted them to… Whatever that was.
He catches up to you, you had only walked a few blocks up ahead. “Sweetheart!”
You sigh, turning on your heel to face him. “I have a name, you know.” You snap, ignoring the heat rising to your cheeks.
It doesn’t go unnoticed. “You like it!” He grins and throws his arm around you once again as you begin to walk.
You let him, even though someone else used to walk you home like that.
It was silent at first. The comfortable kind. It was kind of nice, letting him walk you home. You could tell he really wanted to ask you again, what all that was about, but he didn’t want to upset you.
That’s why you liked Eddie. He was so nonchalant about everything. He wouldn’t pry, if you didn’t want to talk about it. But he was there, in case you changed your mind.
Eventually you did.
You and Eddie didn’t know each other very well. You’d just met when you started your senior year. Of course you knew who he was, everybody talked about him. How he was a stupid freak and a murderer. None of that was true obviously and from the start, you knew better.
Even when your old best friend, Steve, would talk your ear off about him. About how he hated him and how he was basically a perv picking up high school chicks.
You wouldn’t say much because you just didn’t know him.
You warmed up to him pretty quick though. As soon as you got to know him better, you knew all of the rumors were most definitely not true. You could tell under all the chains and denim, he was a true sweetheart.
The only reason why you were in the video store with him was because you let Dustin and Mike convince you to join their stupid club at the beginning of the year, and you couldn’t say no to them for whatever reason. Any excuse you’d have for them, they’d find a way to get you out of it.
So you joined Hellfire and even got a cool t-shirt. Turns out, you were actually pretty good at the game. You think it’s what made Eddie be so interested in you. Since the first time you guys played, he never left your side. He always thought you’d be a great Dungeon Master, since you’d help him with his campaigns and such. But you knew that little geek wasn’t going to give his throne up, even if it was for you.
Maybe for a day, he suggested once. You just laughed and played along. He was easy to get along with.
Under old circumstances, you wouldn’t even be caught dead wearing the club’s shirt. You used to be pretty popular, ever since you were a freshman. Of course that was when Steve still went to school with you. When he was still your best friend.
You and Steve fell out a little bit after his graduation. He was so caught up with Nancy that he would hardly pay any attention to you, even though you’d give him great advice. Then he started working at Scoops and met his actual soul mate. Ever since he met Robin, it felt like he replaced you. Of course that hurt your soul, but you tried not to let it bother you. You still tried to keep your friendship going, but it got to the point where it was all one-sided.
It all became one sided.
“Okay, you definitely deserve an explanation..” You finally say awkwardly, a smug Eddie still hanging off your side. “Steve and I go way back.. We were best friends my first few years of high school and.. and well, i ruined it..” You sigh softly, looking down at your feet that ruffled through the fallen leaves on the concrete floor. It was a satisfying sound that calmed you for some reason, especially in this particular situation that made you feel so nervous. “Im so sorry- I basically jumped you- Or made you jump me- And it wasn’t right.”
Eddie just chuckles and pulls you closer. Did your heart just do a flip?
“It’s okay, you know. Im not even mad or anything.. Just super curious. How did you ruin your oh-so special friendship?” He questions, looking at you. He almost sounds sarcastic.
But you’re never sure.
“Well… throughout our friendship, i had this big, stupid crush on him, that i couldn’t help- And when i say that, trust me, i tried everything to stop thinking about him.. And i just couldn’t! i don’t know why.. But he lived in my mind. I would always think about him, it was so overwhelming..” You explain, whining slightly when you’d get loud throughout your explanation and taking a deep breath when you were finished.
“So overwhelming that you just stopped talking to him altogether?” He finishes for you, assuming that that’s where you were going with your story.
“So overwhelming that i told him how i felt,” You corrected, letting out an empty laugh and it makes Eddie frown. He knows that laugh all too well.
“So you told him and he didn’t feel the same? Sorry- I’m just still kind of confused..” He admits and rubs the back of his neck.
“I told him and the only thing he said was ‘I can’t.’” You drop an octave in your tone when you told him what Steve said, and how he said it, kind of mocking him honestly.
He laughed at your attempt to impersonate Steve, but then began to question you again.
“He can’t what? Get it up?” He joked as he removed his arm from your shoulder to poke at your side with his elbow.
You laughed lightly and shook your head as you looked at the leaves again. “I don’t know.. I wasn’t brave enough to ask what he meant.. I was pretty mortified because i felt like it wasn’t me speaking when i told him.. It felt like i was outed.” You admitted to him, finally looking up at him. “So i basically confessed and bolted before he could even explain himself.. Ever since then, we haven’t talked. Except for today..” You look down once again, knowing he could fill out the rest of the story himself.
“So you thought that if he saw you kissing another guy, he would be interested?” He asked, definitely detecting sarcasm this time.
You smack his arm lightly. “I don’t know what i thought!” You exclaimed. “I guess so, yeah.. I wanted to make him jealous.”
He makes a “tsk” sound and turns around to face you, as he continues to walk with you, only this time he was walking backwards so he could look at you.
“I hate to be the one to tell you this.. But I think he was definitely jealous.” He stated like he just knew.
Why did he hate to be the one to tell you that?
“Am i sensing some jealousy from you?” You asked jokingly. You giggled and shoved him a bit. It’s so crazy how comfortable he made you.
“Babe, did you see the way you were kissing me back there? I mean come on-“ He barked with laughter when he saw how red you got in the face. It was definitely not because of the nickname.
“God, Eddie, shut up! I was trying to sell it.. And you did better than i did- Did you see the look on his face when we walked away?” He laughed just as hard as you did as you both looked back on what happened not even an hour ago.
The laughter between the two of you turns into comfortable silence again when you noticed you arrived at your house.
“I have an idea.” Eddie spoke suddenly, just as you were about to say goodbye and walk inside.
“..It’s not getting high, is it?” You quirk a brow as you start to unlock the door to your house. You figured if you guys were going to keep talking, you might as well let him inside.
“No, but that doesn’t sound too bad right about now..” He smirks.
You roll your eyes as you walk inside with him following behind. You head to the kitchen, throwing your stuff on the first couch you see. You serve yourself and Eddie some lemonade, and hop up on the counter to sip on it.
“Why thank you, I was starting to think i was going to die of dehydration back there,” He jokes as he takes off his jacket, and takes a big swig from the glass.
“What was your idea?” You finally ask. It seemed like he was back tracking from it.
He sighs and sets down his cup. You go to sip on yours when he finally decides to let you in on his dirty little secret.
“I think we should date.” He casually says.
You almost choked on your lemonade but thankfully you didn’t. You decided that would’ve been embarrassing, so somehow you stopped it.
“D-Date? Like- Just like that?” You questioned incredulously. “Are you asking me out?”
Eddie lets out a loud laugh, echoing throughout your kitchen. Was he blushing?
“More like the first one. Look, we make it look like we’re dating for a few weeks and we’ll see if Harrington comes forward with any kind of feelings for you.” He explains, still taking swigs from his drink.
You listen intently. “You really think it’ll work?”
“Well, yeah! You said it yourself: Did you see the look on his face when he saw me sucking face with his Y/N?” He lets out the most pathetic whine, mimicking a baby cry.
You giggle as you set your own glass down. Your giggling quiets down when you realize he’s really just trying to help you out.
“You.. You’d do that? Like.. for me?” You ask quietly, suddenly becoming shy towards him.
His face softens as he looks at you and he finally leans against the counter beside you.
“Babe, I don’t know if you noticed, but it looks like i’m your new best friend.” He huffs out a laugh as he hops up on the counter with you.
You smile and at this point, you’re beaming.
Eddie Munson, your new best friend? Who would’ve thought.
“Now, we must get to planning for our schemes- And figure out how we’re gonna find another rental store in town because I don’t know what i’m gonna tell the club when there’s no movies… For movie night.” He realizes.
“That’s a problem for later. So what did you have in mind?” You’re curious now. You didn’t know how to go about this.
“Well, see, we still need those movies.. So why don’t you go back? You could go by yourself, talk to him, maybe..” It sounded like he was holding something back.
“Spit it out, Munson. What is that going to prove? Am i supposed to just talk to him about you?” You wondered.
His grin got wider as he nudged you. “Not necessarily. Not if you don’t want to- He just has to see.” Now he’s wearing a smirk.
“…See what?” You questioned, still trying to figure out where he was going with this.
He pokes your neck gently where it was exposed. “A hickey.”
You laugh in disbelief. “Yeah, no- No way. I’ve never had one, he’ll know something is up!”
“Which is why it’ll be more believable. He doesn’t know you anymore, so how would he?” He asks you and honestly you didn’t know how to answer.
You sigh softly, jumping off the counter and face him.
You look like you’re hesitating but the look on your face also looks like you’re about to give in.
Eddie leans forward slightly to take in your expression, hoping you’ll go for it. He’ll never say why.
“Only one-“ You start and Eddie almost beams. “And it has to be somewhere only he’d be able to see.. Not my parents or like- Anyone at school- Not that i’d be embarrassed or anything!” You quickly blurted out when you saw how Eddie’s expression fell. “It’s just- I don’t want too many questions from too many people, okay? then id have to keep the lie going- And-“
“Sweetheart,” He cuts you off in a ever-so-gentle tone. You didn’t even realize you’d started babbling. “Only if you want to, okay? It was just a suggestion. I just thought it would be a good way to start. And we kinda have to commit to the lie at school too, you know. Or he’ll suspect something’s up.” He explains and you fall into a deep thought. Robin still goes to school with you guys so he was right. You’re gonna have to be all in or all out.
You looked at him expectantly. “I mean you call me pet names and hug me and stuff at school, so what’ll be the difference?” You tried not to smile when you started listing the ways he is with you at school anyway. Almost like you didn’t even have to change much between the two of you.
But you were wrong.
“Well, we’d actually kiss. And hold hands. You could even call me a pet name or two,” He smirks when he sees you blushing.
“O-okay.. Fine.” You respond, sighing in defeat and stand right in front of him, tilting you head back to expose your neck to him. “Go for it.”
He chuckles softly and get closer to you. “Are you sure?”
“Y-Yeah- Just make it quick..” You thought that if he took too long, you’d change your mind… But there was something about Eddie giving you a hickey that made you get all hot. You wondered if he felt that way too.
You snap out of your thoughts when he rests a hand on your shoulder to keep you steady. He leans over and latches his lips on the soft skin, working his tongue on the spot he latched on over and over.
Your breath hitches when you feel his lips and tongue focusing on that one spot, and slightly whimpering when his grips tightens on your shoulder. Kind of like he was holding back.
He decided to do it just below your right ear. Easy to coverup with your hair, he thought.
After what felt like forever, he pulled back. He licked his wet, pink lips as he admired his mark on you. Like it was a piece of art. He finally looks up at you and notices how tense and stiff you are. But he could’ve sworn he saw you giving him those bedroom eyes..
“You okay..?” He gives you a squeeze where he was already holding you.
“Yeah.. That was.. new.” You decided. “You didn’t do it super dark, did you?” You go to touch the spot where his lips just were, and it was still a little wet. That’s how you knew where to find it.
That’s when the little fucker smirks. Of course he did.
You just groan a little and rolls your eyes in response. “Alright- This better work! If not, we’re not doing it anymore.”
He smiles, and it actually looks genuine. “Understood. Now, make sure you bring back the scariest movies you could find.” He finishes up his lemonade and throws his jacket back on. “I wanna scare the shit out of the freshman for this year’s movie night.”
“Okay,” You chuckled out. “I’ll see you later.”
“Yep, let me know how it goes!” He calls out to you one last time before heading out.
When he leaves, you make your way to the bathroom to see the mark he left on you. You almost gasp when you catch a glimpse of it. It was super easy to hide, but with how dark it was, you didn’t stand a chance. The wind could easily blow your hair out of the way, or you could absent-mindlessly toss your hair out of the way and anybody could see it from a mile away.
When you realized there’s nothing you could do about it, but stick to the plan, you just let out a sigh of relief and started to head on over to the video store.
-
You finally get to the store even though you tried to talk yourself out of it your whole way here. You even thought about calling Eddie, and telling him that you couldn’t go through with it.
But here you were again, in the horror section this time. You couldn’t believe yourself. You’re right back where you were, not even a day later, and it wasn’t a short walk either. You were seriously going above and beyond just to figure out if Steve would say or do anything once he found out someone else was interested in you.
Apart of you felt really dumb. But apart of you also knew this was the only way. The only way you’d get him to fess up about you. I mean you could’ve just talked to him, right? But Eddie’s idea seemed more appealing to you for some reason.
You were starting to get worried when you only saw Robin out of the corner of your eye. When you thought he left for the day, you decided to leave. You turned around without being cautious and bumped into something. More like someone.
You look up at him with wide eyes. He looked different. His hair seemed to brighten up and his skin was clear.
He was looking down at you with a dopey smile. “You gonna run away from me again?”
“No- I didn’t run away..” You mumbled and looked down. You couldn’t take looking into his eyes.
He sighs and runs his hand through his hair. “Well, is your boyfriend gonna come and sweep you away or can we talk?” You catch him glancing at Robin, who seems to be giving him a thumbs up. When you turn to look at her, she acts like she wasn’t just watching the two of you. You assumed he told her everything. You go red at the thought and curse yourself for thinking this was a good idea. But it’s too late to back out now..
But honestly, seeing Robin encourage Steve made you fume. It was the boost you needed. You gain a little bit of confidence and go back to looking at him. “Steve.. Honestly, im just here to pick up some movies. We forgot all about them earlier.. And we actually need them, so..” You trail off as you turn around to look at your options again. This is when you go to casually put your hair up and it was perfect because you turned around halfway to continue browsing, so he could only see the side of you. The side the hickey was on.
You try to glance at him from the corner of your eye, but it was hard to read his face. He almost looked.. pissed off?
“Y/N, it’s just two minutes of your time. You really can’t spare that?” He pleaded, furrowing his brows and narrowing his eyes at you. He seemed really upset, and you just couldn’t care. It felt good.
“No, Steve. I don’t owe you anything,” You simply respond, picking up some dvds and finally taking them to the counter, where Robin checked you out.
Just when you thought he wasn’t going to say anything else, you go to walk out, but when you open the door, Steve stops it like a human door stopper. “What if I do, Y/N?”
You go to look at him and you’re trying your hardest to look bored and uninterested. He was really trying. You didn’t know what to think.. “Come on..” He says, taking you out of your own head. “Let me at least take you home. It’s getting dark.”
You let out a sigh as you glance behind him, noticing the sun going down. You nod and as soon as you do, he removes himself from the door and lets you open it to walk out with you.
You knew the ride home to your house was five minutes tops, so you wouldn’t have to be with him long.. But then you remembered what five minutes felt like with Steve. That’s when you realized the whole thing was actually fucking stupid.
