I drove once more and it was a good night, sort of lol. So I start around 6pm and I’m driving around town praying for a ping and I wasn’t getting anything so I thought “should I just log off???” But I stuck with it and had to drive like 20min to finally get someone!
And then the guy I did pick up was like, “hey can you drop me off right here instead?” a minute into the ride and it was a block away from where I picked him up 😂😭. So I dropped him off and he still tipped me $3.00! Bless his kind soul!
The other drives were okay. There was a college basketball game going on so it was a shitshow getting around town and taking people to the game.
I got yelled at by a security after dropping someone off at the game who was in crutches and the security was like “no drop offs here unless it’s handicap!” And the passengers and I looked at him and in unison said “it is a handicap ride” and the security turned red but had to deal with 😂
It was too crazy and saturated, so I drove out north, letting the app decide where to go, but no one was asking for rides! So I stopped at a McDonald’s and ate because I hadn’t had anything but coffee all day :( and I spent like 15min just waiting and eating and I thought I was about to call it a night, when I get a ping from someone who was going 30min away from the pickup! Yaaasss! I got $27 in fares and the lady tipped me $5! Omg! At this point I’ve reached the $75 mark and I was about to go home, when another ping comes in!
I drove to pick up the girl and she was going west, like a 45min drive! at this point I was like “thank you lyft gods!” I’ve had unexpected health shit going on and paid $350 in medical expenses so I’m short this month and here I am getting long rides 😭🙏🏼 she was so cool and we were being total social justice warriors the whole time. I wish she would’ve sat in the front to talk more comfortably but it was still cool to talk to her.
She had ordered a shared so I picked up some passengers heading out the same way and made $45 with tips for the ride 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
So I’m back where I started but the basketball game is over and now it’s Thirsty Thursday which meant short rides and small fares from college kids :P I still didn’t stop though, I’m in this “one last ride mentality” and the rides just keep getting added to my queue.
I’m FINALLY about to call it a night when I get a ping from someone who is 1min away, so I’m like, fine, let’s just do this ONE LAST RIDE 😉 turns out the people I picked up are super cool and the guy went on hunger strikes to get the ethnic studies department established... so basically I was giving a ride to one of the guys who allowed me to get a degree IN ethnic studies in college 🤩 he also was a union activist, does all this cool political shit and I was STARSTRUCK! I was so amazed and giddy I turned right on a red arrow when I wasn’t supposed to on campus 😭😭😭
Naturally, a cop was there so I got pulled over 🤦🏻♀️😭 I was so embarrassed and told the passengers they could order a different lyft ride but they were so nice about it! The guy even said “can you give me his card if he gives it to you? I’ve been trying to unionize the campus police and I wanna look him up to see what he’s all about” LMAO!!! These people were so cool I wanted to tip THEM for being so nice about the whole ordeal.
Thankfully I didn’t get a ticket, and the passengers and I ended up exchanging business cards after the ride was over — I NEVER DO THIS! But they were so cool that idgaf and went with it.
After that I turned off the app and called lyft to report the incident 😖 they were also cool about it and said they were happy about my honesty and that the passengers had even tipped me $2 and gave me 5 stars so I shouldn’t worry about it 💕 I made $150 tonight so I’m halfway through breaking even! As always, I accept any form of donation through my cash app, PayPal or Venmo LMAO! But I’ll keep driving to make my money in the mean time 😉
