The remake's ending aside, you are definitely not missing anything too... world-shattering from not having played the remake yet, as least as far as your writing goes, anyway? I did get excited for a bit when I wondered how you'd incorporate this or that bit of canon validation of Cloud's character--but again, you write a pretty perfect Cloud already, which is why I wouldn't worry. :3 (Seconding Elegy anon, but I'm loving the frequent AitR updates so I have zero complaints.)

i have heard tiny bits and pieces from friends while they’ve been playing and from what i can tell all the characterization is A+, particularly the side characters that get you to care about the slums and also biggs and wedge and jessie......... rip u_u

i’m VERY intrigued in what you mean by canon validation of cloud’s character and please do share if you’d like-- any cloud content is good content and i’d be more than happy to try to work things in my own writing!! i’m super flattered so many of you seem to think my iteration of cloud is ic <3

I've been wondering about this for a while now, and your magical girl AU kind of cinched it... would you describe your Yashiro to be a sadist? It sounds like he gets off on seeing Satoru suffer--or at least, react from pain he caused directly; he seemed pretty displeased about Satoru falling ill in Reconciliation.

This is a really interesting question! Because on one hand, the way Yashiro kills is really cruel. He let Kayo freeze to death slowly, and seemed to enjoy killing Sachiko. He’s clearly smiling, and stands around waiting for her to die, not to mention making a point of taking her phone only when she reaches for it. It’s all very cruel. 

But the reason I write Yashiro kind of enjoying doing those things to Satoru isn’t based on that part! It’s more to do with the fact that I think Yashiro is a very sore loser who enjoys realizing he’s won. And the ways he hurts Satoru, and how he enjoys it, reflects that.

When his plan to kill Kayo and Aya go awry, he gets so pissed off. Here’s one shot of him in the school bus, and another watching Aya. He’s good at hiding it around other people, but it’s the most agitated we ever really see him in the series. (The only other time is when he realizes he can’t kill Satoru, thus “losing.”)

Anyway, that anger – in the end, the outlet for all of it is Satoru. The one who made him “lose.” And when he finally gets Satoru in his hands, finally is able to “win” against him and make him hurt, just. Look how perversely happy he is. He’s clearly getting such a kick out of seeing Satoru panicked. Even on the roof, when he thinks he’s finally – finally – about to “win,” we see that again.

So, conclusion: Yashiro is pointlessly cruel, but the way he hurts Satoru has more to do with… asserting his victory? Or a sadism reserved for Satoru, perhaps, as the only one to have ever “defeated” him.

Reconciliation with A/B/O dynamics, though... (In that, I find my brain just shorting out whenever I try to imagine it because the power imbalance and potential for abuse and mindfuckery would be massive and soul-crushing.)

I’m glad you thought of it, too! ٩(◕‿◕)۶ 

I was considering what would change because I was curious, and the biggest difference would be that Yashiro would actually wait before sexually assaulting Satoru. He’d probably still leave those lingering touches, but he’d force himself to hold back… at least, until Satoru went into heat.

I think he’d want that “victory” of Satoru wanting him, craving him? Calling out for him, no matter how much his rational, logical side hated it; giving in to those base desires that Yashiro, as a murderous alpha, sees himself as having embraced a long time ago.

So yes, lots of mindfuckery and abuse, especially if we go with the idea that omegas are really affected by an alpha’s scent. Satoru himself would be so infuriated and defiant, but his body and dynamic would put him at a severe disadvantage. Anytime Satoru got a little too defiant, all Yashiro would need to do is spread his scent more, and it would completely muddle Satoru’s senses. And Yashiro would be able to turn it around and be like “Oh, but you seem to be enjoying it, Satoru” and chide him for giving up the fight so easily, and so on and so forth. 

Of course, alpha!Kenya would also have a more carnal justification for his… protectiveness? That there was another alpha lurking around to harm Satoru feeds into every alpha instinct to protect. And there would be that hint of “I failed as a mate” when Satoru got kidnapped. That failure would feel so crushing on a really deep, instinctual level. 

Trying to keep his logical side intact while they hunted Yashiro down would probably also be more difficult, as he would be constantly waging a war with his dynamic, which would be telling him to just charge in.

This is probably the most banal question ever but I can't resist asking anymore: is Satoru able to take bathroom breaks?? In Reconciliation? That shit's important! (Figuratively and literally!) And while we're on that topic I hope you've been getting enough rest while churning out these long amazing chapters. <333

Hahaha! Very important information, absolutely! Yes, he is. When he isn’t tied down to the headboard he can go himself, but when he is I imagine that Yashiro offers to let him go when he brings him food. I debated writing them in when I first hit the abduction chapters, but opted not to!

D: That Red Riding Hood AU! Are you going with the lore where people bitten by werewolves also turn into werewolves???

You know, I’m flip-flopping on it! That’s part of the reason I left it open and ambiguous!

On one hand, Satoru turning into a werewolf is really interesting! Because you have Kenya trying his best to help him through the transformation, but there’s Yashiro lurking and stalking just outside the town. And he understands and can actually help in a way Kenya just can’t. Despite everything, at one point, Satoru might be forced to seek out his help. And then there’s the whole part where they have to keep it a secret from everyone in town, especially while Satoru gets used to all these new powers and urges he can’t understand. Throw in Kenya’s guilt for not being able to prevent this and you have a really interesting situation!

But! There’s also the idea that everyone thinks Satoru turned into a werewolf when he didn’t. The idea that everyone in town thinks that Satoru is a werewolf, or is at least cursed – I think it’s an interesting parallel with canon, where everyone thought Satoru was a murderer. And since Satoru isn’t going to Yashiro for reluctant assistance, you’d have a lot more of Yashiro sneaking into town in human form to see him. And Yashiro still being the “Big Bad Wolf” to Satoru’s Riding Hood would leave that power dynamic in place. In this scenario, the bite would still affect Satoru, physically, just in different ways: like a strange, mysterious fever every full moon, that sends him sleepwalking towards the woods…

So! Options!

For those that don’t know: I started writing Reconciliation as a student, but now I’m working 40 hours a week at the internship of my dreams. That said, it does cut into writing time.

So my writing schedule is… varied haha? My shifts can start as early as 6 AM and end as late as 10 PM (which is the case tonight) so I can’t even write at the same time every day. That said, I do try to set aside as much time as I can! I’m dedicated to updating Reconciliation at least one a week and I’m going to stick to that!!

2. How long have you been drawing?

if i count from the time i HAD to draw, it’s 17. if it consider from when I start drawing anything related to manga, it’s 14 yrs because i think i copied some stuffs from CCS and Doraemon. I started to draw some original stuffs about 12 years ago and i think i drew a lot of mermaids with pearl necklaces and obnoxious big eyes. I think i drew relatively often in my middle school years, but less during my high school years. I didn’t improve much, tbh. Back then I didn’t have much creativity and was sort of lazy. I think i’ve improved more now in my early 20s although i’m still lazy. You can check out the previous #artist asks answer to see why.

18. What are you currently trying to improve on?’

priority is painting and choosing the right color schemes. then anatomy (hands, body muscle and backs, feet), poses, outdoor backgrounds and finally facial expressions. I’m trying to execute my ideas as close to how i imagine them as possible

30. What inspires you to not just make art, but to be a better artist?

I want to convey my ideas into something visible or tangible as accurate as possible. also if i get better i can do art for money because i need to save up for my future shiba inu
