I just wanted to talk about Lynn Baxter for almost three minutes
There's a small easter egg in today's Peregrine Lake that you may have missed. On the wall in the guest room of Lynn and Megan's cabin, there's a photo from their wedding. For UnCONventional readers, this should look incredibly familiar - because it's Ethan's (@wistfolie's) redraw of one of my favorite moments from the entirety of that comic (as well as the cover to the Chapter Six book). I specifically asked Ethan if we could have that as a "photo" in Lynn and Megan's cabin, and they did not disappoint. I gave them the original art layers - which is why you'll notice the background is still the altered photo from the original image. And I just... I just love it. One of the most amazing things about working with Ethan on Peregrine Lake has been seeing the things I imagine realized in a style so different from my own (and with so much more skill than I have myself). It's just amazing. That's all I really have to say. I just wanted to share this weird tiny detail with y'all because it makes me happy.
Experimenting with different art styles
Today is November 17th, and that means it's Lynn Guadalupe Baxter's birthday. In fact, it's her 30th. So, happy birthday fictional person! (Pictured: Lynn art from 2003 to present -- she kind of predates UnCONventional by quite a bit, but ReEntry ((not canon - 2003)) never got released publicly and Full Circle ((mostly canon - 2006)) has been yanked from the web for a long time)
Above is a series of four images collectively called "Sunday Morning." They feature the four "leads" of UnCONventional drawn in my "normal" style (depending on how you define normal). The idea was to capture the same moment for all of them - a winter sunday morning in Eau De Puanteur, WI. I put the one with Lynn and Megan on Tumblr this weekend, but saved the rest for today. I started doing this because I looked at some old drawings I did a few years ago of the main cast, and I sort of cringed.

Also known as "What UnCONventional would look like if Trae had way more time and didn't have to phone it in with stick figures."
One of the things I've been thinking about doing in UnCONventional is changing up some of the character's outfits. When the comic started out, it seemed obvious to make the characters appear uniform so they'd stand out. When the comic was mostly set against a white backdrop, having never changing outfits didn't seem incongruous either... but as more detail has crept in, it seems weird that they never seem to change. While there aren't a lot of defining features on a stick figure, what I've realized is that these characters have distinct enough faces (and styles) that in the current strip I can mix things up.
