To GAR medics

Ner Vode, fellow medics specifically, is anyone else’s Jedi commanders absolutely, stupidly ridiculous and reckless? I have been on ONE assignment with my new commander and she has done the following:

*stayed up half the night doing some sort of stretching exercise that I’m not familiar with. Stretching... Good. Staying up all night after a full day of combat and more to come... Seriously!... Go to bed!

*Jumped out of a very tall tree that no one saw her climb, in front of thousands of HEAVILY ARMED TROOPERS READY FOR COMBAT!

*Threw multiple troopers through the air onto the top of droids using the Force. 

*Threw herself into combat without actual armor while ordering her troops to wait for her signal while again NOT WEARING ARMOR. I get that she’s faster and stronger then she looks because Jedi, but she still got hurt. If you’re reading this Commander, YOU ARE NOT INVINCIBLE. AS YOUR MEDIC, I’M TELLING YOU TO BE MORE CAREFUL! WEAR ARMOR WHEN RUNNING INTO BLASTER FIRE!

*KEPT JUMPING OFF STUPIDLY HIGH CLIFFS AND TREES FOR NO REASON. 

*Talked back to the general 

*decided that taking a small squad and charging straight at the largest group of droids because she has a laser sword and is fast was a smart plan. 

*more things that I can’t think of right now because she’s coming to the medbay on the ship because apparently she twisted her ankle before we left the planet JUMPING OFF ANOTHER REALLY HIGH CLIFF. She’s going to die doing this one of these days. How am I going to keep this chaotic being of energy with no common sense alive? It’s been one mission and I’m exhausted with these stunts. Are all the Jedi commanders like this? How are we supposed to handle it? Can I order her to listen to someone else and not to do the stupid things? I was not prepared for dealing with this. I can handle injuries and dumb decisions leading to injury in the heat of battle. But we were not trained to handle this kind of a person.

Kyiari leaned against the temple wall and rested as she watched the last of her troopers straggle in. It was PT day for the 05 and the 09 and they’d run the exterior of the temple. A pretty good distance even for her, though it seemed some of the boys were struggling more then others with it. She was just glad that all she’d had to do was show up on time and appear to be supervising while Drift and Cres had handled everything, and run at the front of the group of course. The Order had brought in a few officers when the war first started and the senate orders that even padawans were to take command positions were issued. They did their best to never make them enter a situation blind. So for two weeks, Kyiari and the other padawans spent all day every day learning military ranks and terms and salutes and procedures. Everything they could to be as prepared as possible before they had to board the ships and head out either with their masters or to rendezvous with them wherever they already were. But she still felt uncertain about procedure and what she was supposed to do when it came to things like this. She was glad for her officers though, they’d proved to be great helps as she struggled to catch up with a role she’d never trained for.

Her comm beeped and when she answered with perhaps a bit of a sigh for being pulled from her thoughts, she was told to report immediately, that a situation was developing.  She straightened up and hurried over to her seconds. 

“Drift, Cres, something’s going on with the Seps. Master Mace is calling me in. Finish up here and let the boys know that we may have to leave again soon. I’ll let you know when once I’ve been briefed on what we’re dealing with and what high command wants from us. And maybe tell them I’m impressed. They did good today.” 

Both men saluted and she hurried off. Breaking into a jog past the troopers and guards at the entrance to the temple and into the temple. Her footsteps barely paused as she adjusted her stride to the more polished interior floors. No one in the temple really blinked at a padawan jogging through the temple much.  She could see two initiates sprinting across the hall ahead of her. From the direction, probably in the library and now late to a class. She took time to admire the art as she moved. She loved this place. This was home. This was her family and she couldn’t wait ‘till the war was over and maybe then peace could fill the Force here again. She loved her home and her order and if they needed her to fight a war to stop the Sith, to stop the destruction the armies of the separatists were inflicting. She’d do so. 

She quickly reached the high council chambers and nodded at the guards at the doors. The well-known path was quick to travel. She reached her hand up and knocked once before entering quietly. Preparing herself as best she could for whatever was to come.

Elsie

(sometime a few months into the war)

Elsie paces back and forth in front of the bacta tanks of injuried Jedi in the temple, muttering to herself. She had only been back from her most recent field assignment for three days. The bacta shortage wasn’t as bad here as it had been in the field or as it was over at the barracks. And the healers here tended to move between both locations trying to help. But it was still bothering her. She’d spent three weeks at her friends side, pouring every ounce of extra energy Kyiari had and every bit of energy she had into healing the broken bodies of the troopers as they were carried into camp or mending them while blaster bolts flew around them. Sometimes it wasn’t enough, sometimes she was too tired or she had to conserve her strength for the rest of the battle and she resorted to Bacta. Working desperately alongside the clone medics to try and save as many as they could, to heal as many injuries as fast as they could. It wasn’t enough. None of them should have been there. It never should have come to this. And it was all made worse when the bacta rations ran out. They’d been lucky. They’d finished the last battle and were packing up to return home when they ran out. Using so much energy to finish healing those she could save that she passed out was ok then. But what about next time, what about the next time one of these boys, or one of her deeply loved Jedi family members was brought to her and she hadn’t the strength or the Bacta to put them back together because of the stupid rations. Was she simply supposed to let them die? This anger wasn’t right. She should have more control over it. She shouldn’t let it rule her like this. She should go meditate. Calm herself so she could find the best, most efficent, logical solution. That was the Jedi way. But the damn senate. It was like they wanted the jedi and the troopers dead from this war. She wasn’t going to stand for it. But what could she do. 

She dropped her weight against one of the few empty beds staring ahead trying to think. One of the medicine cases sat in front of her, only recently unpacked. It reminded her of the cases she’d seen customs seizing as she’d moved through the spaceport on her way back. A field assignment meant she couldn’t land at the temple. They’d claimed it was spice, but she wasn’t sure. wait, siezed goods... smuggled goods. She was clever, there was always a little extra in the medical stipend the Republic issued to the Jedi. She had access, if she was careful... a few other healers moved into the room with soft smiles and friendly greetings as they began checking the injured Jedi. Her shift in the Temple Medbay was over. There were things she’d usually do. But not today. Today she hurried to her quarters to change out of the carefully maintained robes for the medbay for something more casual and hurried out of the temple. Hopefully, she wouldn’t regret this later. But she’d need to go to lower Coruscant. She wasn’t sure exactly what she was looking for, but one of those lower, smoky, loud cantinas with sabbac and fighting was probably the place to go to find a smuggler. Come what may, she was never going to run out of Bacta again. Not so long as she had Jedi and troopers forced into war to care for. The senate and their rules be damned.

Does your character listen more to their head or heart? Do their emotions control them, or do they control their emotions? Has there been a time when they've regretted following their emotions or head?

Kyiari tries to do both. She tends to be impulsive and follow her heart a lot, often trying to sacrifice her own health and safety in order to protect others. She does try to think things through though, to act deliberately and with forethought. While her emotions do have influence over her, she does her best to control them instead of being controlled by them. This is made more difficult by being a person who bonds quickly with others as well as having psychometry and Force enhanced telepathic empathy thing that Jedi have, hers being stronger then average. She regretted losing control of her emotions after the loss of her first master. Her emotions overwhelmed her and she accidently caused the entire pirate base she was in to explode. It was only thanks to Mace being there and able to use the Force to shield both of them that they weren’t killed. Everyone else in the base was. A massive loss of life in an instant. They were terrible people, but it’s still something that she regrets.

First Day as a Jedi Commander part one

So, I can’t get into too many details about what planet I’m on, or the details of what I’m up to. There are a lot of things that are apparently classified to ‘protect military intelligence’. I don’t understand a lot of this soldier stuff yet. I wasn’t trained for it. But I’m reading through a copy of the troopers manuals I got my hands on and I’m studying as much military protocol and history and strategy as I can to try and catch up. I feel like I’m an initiate all over again. Master Yoda has said that Jedi never stop learning, I guess this is as good an example of that as any. 

It was an interesting day attempting to fill my role to the best I could. Master Mace and I were up and out early to meet the troops and go over the operation. My master is one of the generals who commands this Corp. I don’t actually know if I can name it legally. But simply put, there’s multiple generals over this one and Master Mace is one of them. So we met his second in command, a Commander Ponds. I think I can say that. Unfortunately, the senate doesn’t see fit to put troopers names into official documents. They are all known only by their numbers, which is, and pardon my language here, complete Banthashit. I have only interacted with the men for one day and even calling them clones feels inaccurate. They are all individuals and as unique from each other as any other person in the galaxy, even if they share the same face to the force-blind eye. 

Commander Ponds proceeded to introduce us to the commanding officers of the regiments and battalions. which are sometimes the same person, again, I don’t really understand military structure, but I guess they have it all figured out. Anyways, Ponds just kept talking and my master was being the good patient man he is and I suppose a proper general and listening. I could feel something was wrong though. There was something ahead of us that we weren’t aware of.

See the planet we are on is dense jungle. I can’t say which planet, as I said earlier, but it’s jungle. Which meant that our ships and shuttles had to land in closest safe location to our objective and then we would have to proceed on foot. Not a problem. The troopers are in excellent condition and I am used to running across the temple. (you try getting from the back corner of the library to Master Aerrisns class on the complete other side and up 3 levels in under 15 minutes when you end up wrapped up in a fascinating holocron and are late to class. There’s no choice but to sprint or be even later) Anyways, while Master Mace was being General. I climbed a nearby tree to get a better view over all the flora. The life on this planet is amazing, but I was able to pinpoint two sources of darkness. Of course the foliage was too thick to ‘see’. But I could tell what was there. So I jumped down and explained what I’d been doing. Master Mace said that I should let recon troopers do their jobs that they are trained to do. But I can see better in this jungle. The Force can tell me more then eyes can. This is getting long. So I guess I’ll do more about this first day later. There’s a lot going on and I really need to meditate.

introductions

Some of the other senior padawans have suggested creating a space to interact with others and to place my thoughts as we endure this war. I attempted this. However, I recognize that discussing things without a proper introductions may lead to confusion. I am attempting to remain as calm and composed as possible as I only have a few moments before I head out on the mission that I discussed in my last update. So I guess a quick introduction and then I’m off. So I’m Kyiari Lesana, a senior padawan in the Jedi Order. My master is Mace Windu, he’s the best master a girl could ask for, even if he is a bit strict from time to time. I need the structure though. I get bored too easily and that’s bad for me. No one wants things exploding around them, unless I intend for things to explode around them. Anyways, I don’t know if posting things on the holonet will be as great as my friends have suggested, but it might be fun and I’m always looking for fun.

Thoughts before things change

My master and I head out on our first mission in this war tomorrow. Is it a mission? A battle? an assignment? I’m not sure, military terminology is still strange for me. Master Mace has already fought one battle, but I wasn’t there. Tomorrow, for us, the war really begins, we will meet the troopers of the 91st Mobile Recon Corp. Master Mace is one of the three generals commanding the Corp. I know my master and while war will wear on him, leading the troopers likely won’t. He is wise and kind, steady and disciplined, he inspires loyalty in those around him. It’s me I’m worried about. I know my flaws, and I worry that I do not know the things I need to know. When we leave the ship tomorrow morning, I take up the duties of a Jedi Commander. I do not know how to do that. I am a Jedi. I am trained as a Jedi. I am not trained to be a soldier. Military terms and protocol and ranks and strategy have not been a focus in my training. The most I know is the little I learned studying battles of history and what I have researched. Also I am impatient and I am impulsive, and I prefer to act rather then sit and observe. While I am better then I was, these are still things I must actively be aware of and avoid. I fear that the stress will cause me to forget my training, that I will make the wrong decision, that my actions or inactions will result in unnecessary deaths. Master Mace meditated and spoke with me about these fears at length. I have meditated myself. I control my fears. They do not control me. I will face them and eventually defeat them. However, tonight I find that I cannot let them go, they twist around my mind and disturb my sleep. I find myself contemplating them and wondering how things will change in the future, for me, for my Master, for the Order, for the Republic, even for the clones themselves. I believe I will attempt moving mediation to focus my mind enough to sleep. No matter what tomorrow brings, I will need my strength and that requires rest. May the Force be with us all!

I just have a feeling that after the first battle, when everyone except those on watch went to bed, probably in tents they had to share because one tent per person is inefficient and bulky, Drift just wanders into his and groans into his pillow. Cres telling him that if he’s hurt, he needs to go to the medics. After a few minutes of back and forth, he finally gets out what’s wrong. “Did we have to get Commander Lesana? We couldn’t have been assigned to any other corp. They didn’t train us to deal with Jedi or any of this.” Cres is concerned, worrying that Drift resents their new commander which could cause problems. When he asks what exactly is wrong with Commander Lesana, after all, they’d fought with her and while inexperienced at command, she seemed competent in combat and that was about all they could expect. Drift just sits up and starts listing things. She jumps off high objects without looking. She’s overly confident. She’s reckless. She moves too fast for them to keep up. And falling back onto his bedroll, “And she’s the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen” 

Cres doesn’t even blink, just rolling his eyes, they’re fresh off Kamino after all “She’s the only woman you’ve ever seen.” 

His brothers are so dramatic, even the most laidback of them have their moments and somehow it’s exhausting even when he doesn’t have to deal with much of it.
