Did you know that red has more positive connotations than negative ones?
I feel like red would be Fox’s favorite color.
He hadn’t ment for it to become his favorite, but he did try to make himself at least like the color. He did it out of pure spite because he refuses to allow Palpabitch to ruin a color for him.
He looked up other things red could mean, and found that in many cultures it usually means passion, boldness, strength, independence, and courage just to name a few.
But most importantly, it means love.
So anytime he sees red, instead of thinking of the violence that seems to curse him and his guard whenever they wore their armor, he thinks about different times when they would form cuddle piles for the shinnies or for an emotionally or physically hurt trooper. How they always came to each other’s aid when another needed help, sometimes with a senator or with the various other tasks they had.
He thinks about every time Stone brought him a cup of caf in the morning because he had no time to pick one up, or every time Thire would stop in and tell him insane stories of things his troops had done that day for the sole purpose of making Fox laugh. Thinks about Thorn coming into his office to drag him to the commanders’ shared barracks to sleep, or of Dash exchanging some of his data pads for some rations and a cup of water.
He thinks of those and so many more, with his commanders and the many troops under his command there was always enough to think about, and it never fails to make him smile as grief rips at his heart.
But he moves through it, for their sakes, and chooses to remember the good times because those memories would be lost if he didn’t.
And slowly overtime, he starts to enjoy seeing the color when finding red items while strolling in a market, when Glitch gives him a red flower during a hike through a woody area, its petals shinning with water drops from the rain that morning, or by seeing a bird donned with beautiful red feathers all over soar into the open air above.
And eventually, it becomes one of his favorites.
