hmm well the only one i know is the latin alphabet but i think hangul is really pretty!

16. Your favorite regional word or colloquialism in your native dialect of your native language?

there are sooooo many! i like “pantoute”, “coudonc”, “voyons donc” and all the verbs made up using swear words and i don’t even know how i’d translate any of these to english (quick story: one of my english teachers in secondary school asked us what “coudonc” meant and we said “hmm ‘voyons donc’” and then he asked what means ‘voyons donc’ and we said “well.. ‘coudonc’?”)

I'm a little confused by the "no" in this sentence: "han har ikke no hjem" I know what it should mean but I don't know where the "no" came from could you explain? thank you!! <3

In this case, the “no” is actually a slang-version of the word “noe”, so if the sentence were to be written in “normal” Bokmål, it would be “Han har ikke noe hjem.” 

You can think of “noe” as the Norwegian version of “any” - so the literal translation of this sentence would be “He doesn’t have any home”, but it’s probably more natural to simply say “He doesn’t have a home.”  in English c:

“Har du ikke noe kaffe?” - “Don’t you have any coffee?”

But if you’re speaking to dem good ol’ slang-y youngins, you might sometimes hear: “Har du ikke no’ kaffe?”

This isn't directly related to the language but I was curious: when English language movies and tv are shown in Norway are they often subtitled in Norwegian? (I ask because I found some clips on youtube that were) and since animated movies are dubbed do you ever watch the same movie in both languages? thank you!

English movies/shows are always subtitled in Norwegian as far as I know. As for animated/children’s movies, you can usually choose whether to watch the dubbed version or the subbed version when you go to the cinema since they tend to have both versions - though when they air on tv they’re usually dubbed (but not always - it depends on the channel). 

Some people (myself included) prefer certain animated movies when they’re dubbed, simply because they tend to use different Norwegian dialects to give the characters a little bit more.... personality i guess??? For example; I never really watch Ice Age in English because Sid’s Norwegian voice is so hilarious, partly due to his dialect and partly because a very famous Norwegian comedian does the voice acting. c:

hello! i'm a little confused about the difference between "å spørre" and "å be", i know "be" can also mean "pray" but i keep seeing it used to just mean "ask" and i was wondering are there certain times when you would use one or the other? tusen takk!!

“Å spørre” is more used when you’re asking someone a question, or asking someone and expecting some kind of answer in return. 

“Å be” is more used when you’re asking someone to do something for you - in other words, you wouldn’t “be” anyone a question, but you would “be” someone to hand you something.

Examples:

“Kan jeg spørre deg om noe?” - “Can I ask you something(a question)?” “Kan jeg be deg om noe?” - “Can I ask you to do something(for me)?”

“Be” can also mean “to pray”, or “to beg”. Also, in past tense (”ba”/”bad”), it can sometimes be translated into “told you to”, as in:

“Jeg ba deg rydde rommet ditt!” - “I told you(asked you) to clean your room!”

re: midsommar: it gets heavily implied in the film, I can't find the post I saw that discusses it but a lot of the runes the cult uses are also associated with neo nazis and a Swedish banner they drive past at the beginning has an anti-immigration slogan on it (and apparently ari aster himself has said that they target white people specifically for recruitment into the cult but I don't have a direct source for that)

A mutual of mine linked me to a few articles that mentioned the white people recruitment thing, and I straight up didn't know the other stuff, wow. The More You Know. Also that really makes the amount of people who see that as a "girlboss" movie a lot worse
