Your honor, I love them.
Working on the next chapter of Carry You Home this weekend, and I came across that "meme" in my socials and it felt very Zilla/Librarian Gale core.
Please enjoy two versions of this pathetic Gale meme I cooked up during lunch in like .5 seconds.
(One with him alone, one with my Durge, Zilla)
And Ernesto Makes Three...
This was inspired by my monthly surprise sketch from @skelvron-keiman (pictured below). The idea for it initially was born from snark, but when I saw the final product, I knew I needed to write something to go along with it. Hope you enjoy. :)
Amid the sounds of chaos downstairs, Gale quickly rushed into his study and closed the door, leaning against it with a deep sigh. His eyes were still closed when a soft thump landed in the open window.
“Mr. Dekarios,” said the sound of a very annoyed tressym.
“Hello Tara,” Gale said, opening his eyes with a sigh. “By the sound of your voice, I’m assuming you’re not here to welcome me home.”
The tressym chuffed with irritation. “Yes, quite the contrary though I am glad to see you home… however, the… beast…”
“His name is Ernesto, apparently,” he said, sounding tired and crossing to his desk to sit down wearily.
“Ernesto,” she scoffed, gently flapping her wings to fly over toward him and land heavily upon his desk. “I am assuming the other new addition brought him along then?”
“Her name is Zilla,” he said, leveling his gaze at the tressym. “We’re engaged, so I’d appreciate it if you would be polite-“
Tara flapped her wings in frustration, tail puffing slightly. “Polite? To someone who brought that thing into my home-“
“Our home,” he corrected her. He opened his mouth but the sound of a crash from below followed by Zilla scolding loudly, ‘Ernesto! No! Bad boy, we don’t chew that-‘ interrupted him, and he sighed heavily. “I’m hoping its temporary. Ernesto, that is.” He reached his hand to pinch the bridge of his nose as if to stave off a headache. “We found him traveling back from Baldur’s Gate- the others with him were dead, and we’d never seen such a… well, young gnoll before.” He released his hand, slumping a bit in the chair with apparent weariness. “Zilla was attached instantly, and well, I figured it’d be worth it to study what may very well be the first baby gnoll I’ve ever come across in my studies.”
Tara chuffed again. “You clearly must be deeply in love with this tiefling to discard any ounce of common sense.” She sat and started licking her paw- a reaction to self-soothe.
Gale smiled wearily at the sound of something glass breaking and Zilla sounding exasperated from below. “I am, but that wasn’t why I said yes.” He took a few moments to briefly explain their journey, her revelation she was a Bhaalspawn, and other relevant highlights from their travels. “When we found him, she looked up at me when she was holding him and he licked her face. ‘I know he’s kind of murderous, but look, he loves me already,’ she said, and then her face softened and she added, ‘kind of like me and you.’ That was it. I couldn’t say no.” He gave Tara a small smile as claws scrambling on stone stairs sounded past the closed study door. ‘No, Ernesto, you can’t go up here!’ answered by what can only be assumed were baby gnoll noises followed from the hall.
Tara stopped licking her paw and stood up, swishing her tail. “Right, well, very happy you’ve found love and happiness and all, but I’ll be staying at your mother’s for the time being.” She flapped her wings, lifting off and gliding to the window ledge. When she landed she glanced at him over her shoulder, swishing her tail once more. “You best keep him out of my bed, Gale,” she warned before flapping again and exiting out the way she came.

Untitled Future Chapter of Carry You Home
Working on a chapter out of order because inspiration hit last night as my head hit the pillow- I actually turned the light on and created the placeholder with a short description so I wouldn’t forget.
Not sure where this will fit in the timeline I have just yet, but this chapter will definitely shake Zilla’s confidence in not only her skills, but the choices she’s made for herself in general. I am looking forward to using my music education background for jargon that’s going to make Zilla’s head spin (to be honest, some of it made my head spin, too).
Am I procrastinating their next chapter currently with this? Maaaaaaaaybe…
Galemas Day 1: Mistletoe
“Frankly I don’t see the point,” Zilla said, leaning against the doorway. “You just take it all back down again in a couple weeks. It’s like you barely get to enjoy it.” She eyed Gale as he dragged yet another box of decorations from storage. She watched with one skeptical eyebrow arched as he carefully unpacked wreaths, lights, and other assorted holiday things.
“My lovely little songbird,” he began, not yet looking up at her. “You sound like you could desperately use a dose of holiday cheer.” He continued to remove ornaments and garland from the carefully packed boxes. “Perhaps you just need to experience a little touch of Dekarios Christmas to get you into the spirit.” He stood up, dangling what looked like a tiny tressym with a Santa hat proudly from his hand.
She stepped closer to take a look at what was in his hand. “Is that… supposed to be Tara?” She asked, tilting her head. “I’m fairly confident she’d shit in your shoes if you tried to put a hat on her.”

Carry You Home Chapter 4: Trouble
Zilla held her breath, pressed to the top of the bookshelf, as the two thugs started to move towards the direction of the sound of her phone. She pressed herself as flat as she could to the top of the shelves as panic crept into her chest.
‘Think, Zilla… this isn’t the worst situation you’ve been in,’ she thought to herself, though she had never felt as trapped as she did in this exact moment.
Gale watched the men moved closer to Zilla’s location with growing concern. He stepped towards them to try to intervene.
“Gentlemen, I assure you- I do not think the person you’re looking for is anywhere in this library,” he said in a cheerful, but gently assertive voice. “Perhaps we can relocate ourselves back over to the circulation desk and I can try to assist you-“
As the words left his mouth, the sound of heavy boots entered from the main entrance with a determined cadence.
