i have my day 4 for destinytober but it’s writing so im gonna put it under the cut because im still mad insecure ayyy. Im not proof reading either we die like men
Series: destinytober i guess
Characters: Amanda Holliday and my Guardian oc Trinity
The beginning dialogue is from her reaction to the Guardian avenging Cayde’s death in game this is my take on that moment basically
The second their eyes meet Amanda closes the distance between herself and Trinity, the words tumble out of her mouth faster than Trinity can process, "Did Petra Venj pull the trigger, or was it you?"
She shouldn't have been surprised that Amanda would ask—everyone else has; which Trinity promptly ignored—but she was. It didn't bother her that she had asked. It wasn't like every one else looking for a story or a leg up on the current “gossip”. She just wasn't expecting it from Amanda. And it must have shown on her face because almost immediately Amanda backtracks.
Amanda sighs, "Wait. Wait, don't tell me. I—I don't want to know. Either way, wasn't gonna bring Cayde back." She takes a few steps back into place, her nerves seeming to settle with the action, "I'm just glad you're safe."
Trinity can only nod in response. The mention of Cayde leaves her throat tight and her legs itching to walk right back out. She has to make a conscious effort not to look at his cloak hanging just five feet away behind Amanda. She had done everything she could to avoid being near it but she needed to finish Cayde's will. Her comfort be damned.
"Anyway," Amanda says as she takes up her wrench, "you here for a refit? How can I help you?"
Wordlessly, Trinity holds out the will for Amanda to read. As Amanda's eyes scan the paper she can see some of the grief wash back over her, but just as quickly she stows it away. Forward momentum. Trinity envied her in that moment. The ability to keep going. To do what he would have wanted with a smile on her face, no matter how thin the mask was it was still leagues ahead of where Trinity was at emotionally. The closest she got to normal nowadays was when she was putting a bullet in something. Apparently the only thing that seemed to take her mind off his death was being too preoccupied with preventing her own.
Amanda pulls back once she's finished and the paper dissolves into light back into Trinity's inventory.
"Right this way," Amanda says, that fragile smile barely reaching her eyes, "I just tuned her up a while back so...she should be hood to go."
Trinity follows her to one of the ship consoles and every step away from his cloak eases the empty feeling in her gut. “Out of sight out of mind” is what she tries to live by these days. The hole in her chest was harder to soothe.
Trinity watches as Amanda punches in the code that retrieves her. The Queen of Hearts. Cayde's jumpship.
"She's all yours, Guardian." Amanda says, this time her mask is a little stronger, her voice doesn't crack. Trinity nods and releases her Ghost.
"I'll just be a second," he says as he begins scanning the ship.
"Hey, Guardian?" Amanda rests a hand on her shoulder and Trinity tenses under the contact but allows it, "I'm glad it was you. Take care of her, 'kay?" she gives her should a comforting squeeze before beginning to head back to her station.
"Amanda," Trinity calls to Amanda's surprise causing her to look back over her shoulder.
“One moment I'm dreaming...nothing. I’m no one. An empty husk of my former self devoid of….everything. Everything that made me myself is gone, but then in a flash of pain and light it all comes rushing back. I can feel again—I’m terrified and it feels beautiful.”
