This is a terrible, terrible idea. She knows the moment she boards the yacht and sees a handful of familiar people, none of which are the roommates she accidentally ditched to ride the roller coaster with a stranger. Thankfully, a different familiar face comes into view. Mirana quickly approaches them, desperate to appear in conversation and less approachable. “ Rai ! Who knew you were one for yacht parties ? ” she remarks with a smirk. “ Here to observe all the city’s finest and their petty dramas ? Or is it the free food ? ”

the last thing rose wanted to do right now was celebrate. perhaps it had been foolish, but she had imagined her mother’s inauguration happening in a number of ways. somehow, it was never like this. never ushered in with the death of her mother’s friend, the death of her mother’s mentor. the death of rose’s uncle. it felt wrong, in a way, to celebrate. but she knew they had no other choice.

her friend stood out in the crowd; they always did. with a goblet of pumpkin juice clutched in her hand, rose made her way across the room. she smiled and indulged some almost-strangers in pleasantries before arriving at her friend’s side. “you want to get out of here, ly?” she asked, a hand gently falling on their arm to grab their attention.

“ Oh no, this is not happening, ” Lorelai huffs when she lowers her sunglasses notices an unfortunately familiar face also atop the yacht. “ I already have to deal with the telenovela that is my life with all my siblings today, and I desperately need to sunbathe and eat my macarons in peace, which you are not ruining. Can’t you loiter anywhere else ? ” There is something pleasing in both the aesthetic and tactile sense of having a sugary treat in one’s hand at the end of a long, stressful day that she is not willing to give up due to one obviously negative past mistake.
