Love Yourself: Tear Album Review and Ramblings

This is my first post on this blog and this album review has been delayed for three months but I've just finished this yesterday, so Y'all here's an album review and rambling on BTS' album from the Love Yourself era, Love Yourself: Tear.

Fake Love:

This song started with a pre-chorus then followed by a hook which I actually mistook for a chorus. The song was full of vocal colors from all of the members. The harmony between Jin and Jungkook is really good. It blended well. With V and Jimin's vocal dynamics really sent goosebumps whenever they harmonize.  The chord progression was constant but shifts from major to minor smoothly. This song contains heavy bass and synth but it doesn't overpower the vocals.

When it comes to the rap parts, Suga really did have a new kind of flow, he's like talking, narrating his feelings which I feel is more relaxed. Jhope got intense in a good way. In this song, he conveyed all his emotions that you can envision what he wants to say.  RM's part got me screaming, his verses were so powerful it added an extra kick into the song. I felt anger, sadness, and regret in between his raps. This song made me feel too much emotion all at the same time.

Singularity:

I enjoyed listening to V’s voice, both deep and powerful. It was sensual that matched the melody and totality of the song. The most memorable line was: ‘Have I lost myself or have I gained you? ’It reminds me of The Phantom of the Opera and Beauty and The Beast.

The song has an enigmatic feel but in pain. I want to tackle more but this is a song review and not a theory post. I guess I’ll be making a different post of my Singularity theory since the song is ambiguous and metaphorical.

Magic Shope:

A ‘fan’ song that made me cry, to be honest. I can’t coherently write what I want because of constant tears rolling my cheeks. Aside from Tear, this song has struck me (or a lot of people).

JHope blessed us with his vocal. Jin’s high notes very stable, it didn’t go flat nor sharp. Taehyung shifting from low vocals to high vocals are really great. 

“You give me the best of me so you give you the best of you” means with your love I became the best that I want to be so now it is your turn to love yourself and become the best version of yourself.
