❄ ❛ WELCOME TO WHISTLER, CANADA ❅
( banita sandhu, 23, agender, they/them ) i think i just heard someone humming JUST GOT PAID by SIGALA, ELLA EYRE, MEGHAN TRAINOR, & FRENCH MONTANA, must be INDALI NEHRA walking about. Rumor has it they’ve lived here for 5 YEARS and work as BARTENDER + THE RAVEN ROOM. In their spare time, they love going to WHISTLER BLACKCOMB RESORT. I hear ALI can be COMPASSIONATE, but on their worst of days, they can also be RECKLESS. Still, they remind me of COLORFUL DRINKS, LONG WALKS IN THE SNOW, AND STARGAZING ON CHILLY NIGHTS. Can’t wait to see what they have in store for us.
BACKSTORY
The Nehras had moved to Canada shortly after getting married at 22, a few of their family members following them. And just about a year a half later, Indali was born. Due to their jobs, their parents had been moving across the country quite a lot, but the family stayed in Saskatoon for about 3 years before moving again - the longest time Ali stayed in a place, despite them not even remembering that.
They grew up across the country, never staying much long than one year in the same place. Due to that, it made Ali a quite extroverted person, who just loved to meet new people and places. But they’d also never let friendships grow too deep, knowing it would come to an end a couple of months later.
Ali never felt particularly at home anywhere; the houses they’d stay in where often rather bland, they never felt like they fully settled in one place. But they felt comfortable everywhere, and considered the whole country to be their home.
It wasn’t until they were 14 and had just moved to Whistler that Ali realized what it really meant to feel at home. The town just had that little something, and if they could, they never would’ve left. But every good thing comes to an end, and came the month of July, they were gone from the place again.
The following three years, all Ali had in mind was to go back to the town they’d fallen in love so badly with. Every other place after didn’t fell as special. They tried to bring it up with their parents, but it just felt like both of them were under the impression their child would end up living the same kind of nomadic life.
So really, it shouldn’t have come as a surprise that right after turning 18, Ali announced to their parents that their planned on going back to Whistler. They took the first train they found from Edmonton to Whistler, their parents accepting to help pay the train and the hotel room until they found a job and a place; they still loved their child despite deciding to go their own, in fact, they were rather proud of them.
Ali stayed in a hotel for the first week and a half or so in Whistler, applying to a couple of places and visiting a couple of apartments. They were hired in a grocery store rather shortly, and moved into a small apartment not too long after. And for the first time, they started decorating their place, something they’d never done in any other place they’d lived in.
For the first time, Ali also begun to open up more to people, tried to develop deeper friendships with the other residents. And surely enough, a couple of months later, they’d fallen in love with another resident. Take another few months, and the two had moved together in a slightly bigger apartment. This felt so new and scary at the same time, but Ali didn’t feel as if it was a mistake.
After 2 years working at the grocery store, Ali decided it was time for a change. That job was alright, but they needed a little bit of a better salary, and a little more action. They sent applications to a few restaurants and clubs, and were over the moon when they got hired at the Raven Room. This was far from what they were used to, but they learned quickly, and wouldn’t want another job.
About a year ago, they had a small argument with their partner, which ended in a breakup. Their partner wanted to go travel, but Ali didn’t want to leave. Really, they could’ve done a long distance, but in the end, they decided to give each other the freedom of being single again. Ali hasn’t allowed themself to get close to anyone else in the same way since.
