Clark was already in National City on matters of his own when he happened to walk by a coffee shop and saw a news report about Supergirl going toe to toe with some enemy that was clearly sent by Lex, it wasn’t enough that the man tried to kill him but now he was targeting Kara. Running into an alleyway he shot into the air and was in his suit he flew for the area of the disturbance he arrived in time just to deflect a punch and blasted them back with his heat vision before turning to Kara. “This guy being a nuisance?”

clark turned to her, eyes narrowed in question before a lazy smile spread through his face. his green eyes were muted, like his life lost all color, but only he himself did. "emma! heyyy." his voice was slurred, he'd lost track of how many beers he'd chugged but he knows he was well past ten already which would usually be his limit. right now, it was a miracle he was able to recognize emma at all but for now, he'd consider that a success. it was a painful day, and since he was now closer to his void than he'd been in nearly a month, it seemed that his emotions went on full blast and all he could feel was a horrible aching pain right where his heart should've been happily beating.
"clark, how many?" she asked, hands on her hips as she swats his hand from bringing the bottle back to his lips, prying it from his grip and holding it hostage. clark held up two fingers, chuckling. emma quirked a brow, raising it in the perfect arch she was pretty much known for. "liar." she flicked his head as she'd often done, in the past it was more in fondness, but right now she really thought he was being dumber than usual. "do you wanna talk about it? we can get out of here, get on the roof... i'll bring a blanket." the girl offers him sincerely, the roof was like their special place, it was where they shared their deepest thoughts and watched the sunrise in the morning, it was where he told her his story, and in return she exchanged hers. the roof was something that belonged to them, and only them. it was something clark always found comfort in. but clark shook his head, mood changing from happy go lucky to melancholy within seconds. emma just watched him, sympathy in her eyes as she watched her best friend crumble from the inside.
"i want to be okay." he finally offered her, thinking that maybe emma would be able to pull something and find a way to cheer him up as she often did. he felt like something was chipping away at him and it was her words that were doing it, they were like waves crashing on the tide, chipping away at the rocks of his sanity. i love him, clark. i love him so much, and i know what this could mean for us, but... audrora had stopped there and clark knew why, they both knew what she was going to say, what she was trying to say. i choose him. and ultimately that is what broke clark, having those words hang in the cold air between them, no one really speaking it out loud to make it a reality. he thought he was drowning in that moment, like he was imagining things, he remembers every detail on her face when she told him. her soft blonde locks were pinned back, eyes showing pain and regret, he can even remember every little line that creased on her forehead. he remembers it so vividly, he swears he actually felt it and touched it and counted it. he can remember the way her lips curved into a sad smile, like she was sorry but she really wasn't. the thing that really was magnified was the way her fingers shook, he can remember the little vibrations like they were earthquakes and how she folded her hands tightly, like she was afraid that if they unfolded, she'd begin crying. he knew the worst part was that he'd known it all along and yet, he let himself fall in love. so for now, he just wants to be okay. "emma." he looked into her bright blue eyes, ones that still sparkled at the sight of him, and spoke again. "i want to leave again."
emma's face formed an expression of surprise, but she didn't say no. but she didn't say yes either. she couldn't because more than anything, she can still remember what audrora had told her before emma went looking for clark. emma, i don't want clark to leave again... it's a lot to ask but i... i just want him to stay. that's how clark knew that they weren't going to leave, that he was going to spend every day in fear that he'd bump into either nox or audrora, but the only part that made him feel better was that he knew he wasn't going to brave it alone. it used to be him against the world and he was okay with that, but it was a lonely path to be walking. emma's there now and she carries the weight with him, she holds his hand and keeps it warm with her breath, and even when he's being the most absolute idiotic person, he knows she'll sit down and have a drink with him. and that's exactly what she does because he is clark and she is emma, and they know that above anything else they can always count on each other to be what they've always been. when clark remembers that, he knows that it'll all be okay and when he glances over at emma, he knows that she knows it too.
