"he left you alone in the house?" maggie didn't expect her dad to be home, she certainly didn't expect him to have brought someone back to golden. well, not just someone, henry. the professor. "he brought you here, didn't tell anyone he was doing it and then he left you alone at the house? jesus h christ, he's on a roll." maggie tossed her bag onto the couch and walked over the the older man.

maggie stood on the stool, precarious as she always was, one knee pressed to the edge of the counter while her heel held most of her stability. "wait, which one was it we needed? baking soda or baking powder?" they look the same, why wasn't there more distinction between them? maggie was useless at baking, but she didn't really care about being good at anything when she was with georgie.

it's small and worn down, but well cared for. leon said that the first hancock to settle on what would become golden ranch built it, lived in it, and the only reason the lodge was built was because the stone foundation would take too much time and money to move. so instead the cottage lives in one of the fields, a memory of the past and a promise to those who came before. over the years, maggie would request animals that couldn't live at the barns, and they'd go to live at the cottage, goats, chickens, ducks, a lamb or two, all growing up together on the near play farm that they'd built for the little girl. sometimes the wildflowers that surround it are too unruly, making it hell to get into the actual cottage, but most of the time, there's a wrangler assigned to keep the place tidy and care for the animals.
