it never really gets completely black outside when it’s night time ( ?? ) , something that’s changed from a long time ago. shades would have been extremely brutal , but the sun still somewhat remains despite how late it is.
he is unable to process emotions well & it’s been that way since childhood ; from his fathers’ passing & his mothers’ later passing at just 10 years old.
money was always extremely tight , especially due to the cost of yonahs’ medicine , hence why he would have to resort to odd jobs & selling things from his home ( mothers’ clothing ) , there was even a point where he had to consider selling the house itself.
he established thoughts that SHADES MAY HAVE BEEN HUMAN at some point when he went on a shade slaying hunt , seeing how the taller shades would bleed similar when they’re injured.
extreme tw abuse / trauma implications
nier did absolutely everything for yonah to the point of selling his own entirety to a man he encountered at seafront , it eventually led him to develop a habit of tying his hair later on because he couldn’t stand to have it touch his shoulders / having it touch him at all / having people touch it. to this day , the thought of going to seafront & seeing that house , is still dreadful.
popola & devola may have caught wind of what nier was doing & directed him to shade slaying jobs since it paid higher than the misc. jobs he was doing. he could tell they might have noticed due to the look in popolas’ eyes.
nier developed somewhat of a sick satisfaction slaughtering shades from the beginning of killing them. it may have been some kind of emotional outlet for him.
nier absolutely loves yonah , he would do absolutely anything. & the thought of being alone / losing his only family devastates him. his whole life revolved around protecting / helping yonah that he has a disregard for his own being.
