One of the problems South Africa faces is unemployment. While government has spoken frequently about job creation, the reality is that there are many who simply have no work and even more people who are not able to make ends meet. This is what start-up initiative M4JAM (Money for JAM) is looking to combat head on by offering “micro jobs” via their WeChat platform. Micro jobs are simple jobs that take minutes to complete such as stock count or site survey or taking a picture of a billboard. For this job, there is monetary compensation that is paid via M4JAM and MTN Mobile Money where the “jobber” can earn between R15 and R30 per job.Through the MTN Mobile Money partnership, microjobbers can accumulate their pay in an e-wallet and cash it out at a Pick ‘n Pay or Boxer store, paying R4 for this transaction.
