This just continues to highlight how the Mighty Nein have come to thrive under pressure, especially as they come to trust each other more.
It makes them throw away their reservations and masks and learned behaviors and act on what they have in the moment. Their strengths shine through, as does the trust they’ve been building with each other.
Against Avantika; they had an entire city coming down on them, with no immediate path out, they managed to escape with their lives and a ship (while Avantika didn’t) and the only consequence was a banishment. It was because everyone was acting under pressure-- Beau, the self-proclaimed asshole left alone in the face of a diplomatic situation, held herself back and started to talk them out. Everyone else trusted in her, Jester even had to make a choice to let her take care of it. And with the entirety of Darktow bearing down on them, they presented themselves with a steady certainty and brought Avantika’s treachery to light.
A smaller scale example: the lava-crossing with the fire giants in episode 50. The plan was all muddled up, everyone moving in the wrong order-- Nott was stuck on the other side of the lava on her own. But the moment she went down, suddenly Cad had a healing spell and Beau was there to pull her out and they got away.
Here, with the Bright Queen. They’d talked and talked about how to go into this, tried to plan out what they were going to ask for, what they were going to tell her, and the plan fell apart quickly. But when everything went to shit, well... Caleb never would’ve brought up presenting the dodecahedron as an option going in. He’d barely wanted to show it to Yussah. But he was put in a position where he had to act quick to protect himself and everyone, had to throw out at least some of the caution he has learned about items and people of power and act quickly to save them. And he did. And everyone figured out what he was doing and just had to trust that it’d work. And it did.
And the Mighty Nein became the heroes of an Empire.
