Lilé had known that becoming close to Loki again was dangerous. The memory of their breakup had surged anew, the pain and grief fresh like a wound. But, like a moth to a candle’s flame, the bond between her and him was irresistible. This past week had shown her the new and old sides to her once-beloved. He was a king, now. He had been one for over five years. There was a maturity to him, tinged with caution.

It made him so very difficult to ignore.

Lilé froze in between shelving her new books. They had spent a content hour in her flat, for him a welcome reprieve from responsibility. For her, however, it was bittersweet. He had presence, an aura of charm. Cultivated, yet innate. And the moment those words were uttered, the last of her heart’s walls began to crumble.

Slowly, she set the book she was holding down, and swallowed. His soft admittance had her pulse speeding; Lilé steeled herself, and opened her mouth, turning to face him.

God, he was beautiful.

Her reply died in her throat, caught off guard by the expression on his chiselled features. It shouldn’t have startled her - they’d been so vulnerable with each other in the past - yet it had.

Eyes slid to his lips, the faintest blush colouring her cheeks. Without thinking, she reached up and touched his lower lip with her thumb.

“What if I hurt you?” she finally managed to ask quietly, hardly daring to meet his gaze. The shame of that agony still snagged at her heart. “I couldn’t bear that. Not again.”

"You don't seem that entertained," Loki commented as he spotted the boredom on the god's face. He joined her side, leaning against the wall. Asgard's parties were said to be pretentious and full of life yet it did not seem to reach Phobos' expectations, at least not tonight. The prince chuckled, now standing right next to her. "Care for some real entertainment?"

      She really should have been grateful that this alien invasion was out in the middle of nowhere. But it was out in the middle of nowhere in the Mojave Dessert. Sand was already everywhere and Peggy had never done well with the California heat. However this mission went sideways in a way that she hadn’t expected.

      A tall man dressed in a dark outfit with green and gold accents had appeared seemingly out of nowhere just as Peggy was about to step forward to address the group. The man made a dramatic gesture, calling himself Loki and claiming that Earth was already conquered and that they needed to go home. That statement made Peggy’s hair stand on end, straightening her spine even more as she prepared to approach the situation.

      “Crikey o’reilly.” She muttered under her breath as she watched the first group of invaders left. Peggy motioned for the agents that were following to stay back. “Now before you decide to disappear too, I need to see your hands and for you to slowly turn around as you tell me why you think Earth is conquered, Mr. Loki.”

“Oh yes. Absolute TORTURE. It’s giving me a horrible headache.
