      She really should have been grateful that this alien invasion was out in the middle of nowhere. But it was out in the middle of nowhere in the Mojave Dessert. Sand was already everywhere and Peggy had never done well with the California heat. However this mission went sideways in a way that she hadn’t expected.

      A tall man dressed in a dark outfit with green and gold accents had appeared seemingly out of nowhere just as Peggy was about to step forward to address the group. The man made a dramatic gesture, calling himself Loki and claiming that Earth was already conquered and that they needed to go home. That statement made Peggy’s hair stand on end, straightening her spine even more as she prepared to approach the situation.

      “Crikey o’reilly.” She muttered under her breath as she watched the first group of invaders left. Peggy motioned for the agents that were following to stay back. “Now before you decide to disappear too, I need to see your hands and for you to slowly turn around as you tell me why you think Earth is conquered, Mr. Loki.”

"And how can I help you?" It was obviously a rhetorical question; Loki did not help others out of simple kindness. His help would always require something in return. Still, his eyes remained on the other, something felt so awfully familiar about him and the trickster hated himself for not realizing what it was. With a frown, he watched the man in front of him, arms remained crossed, both unaware what they truly were to each other.

How much longer could she insist on hating him when it was more than obvious Heather felt something else other than disgust? Loki had learned that he could never know what was going on in her mind, that his arrogant ways did not work on the human yet she herself made it clear, her body made it clear, his touch was something she craved. After the scene in front of his family and the brief moment out of everyone's sight, the prince let her be, retreated to give her the room she needed. Wasn't that generous? But Loki's goal had been something else the entire time. He took a liking to her without realizing it and unaware even to himself, he too craved her presence. She was annoying, loud and furthermore never fell victim to his charms - which opened his eyes and calmed the snake's temper a little. When Loki arrived in front of her chambers, he knocked twice, already growing used to the idea that she might not even open the door yet he found himself here regardless, like a fool who was looking for trouble. Still, Loki had Heather on his mind and the way her eyes were sparkling under his magical touch.

"You don't seem that entertained," Loki commented as he spotted the boredom on the god's face. He joined her side, leaning against the wall. Asgard's parties were said to be pretentious and full of life yet it did not seem to reach Phobos' expectations, at least not tonight. The prince chuckled, now standing right next to her. "Care for some real entertainment?"

“I’m not yet so pregnant that I am incapable, my love,” his Queen retorted dryly. Her throwing knives vanished, her bow was slung back over her body; her stomach was only just beginning to swell. “And I was not about to let you do this alone, not after last time. I could not sit by and ‘rest’. It is my duty to protect you as much as you protect me.”

Despite her tone, she leaned into Loki’s tender touch, soothed. Her own hand reached up to cover his, thumb idly caressing his skin. There was a deep, vengeful facet to her beloved that rarely surfaced, but it was tempered by his innate gentleness. Two sides of the same coin. They both had wrath and blood on their hands; no doubt they would gain more of both in time.

What was certain, however, was their shared intent to spare their children any of it. They had not even needed to discuss it. Both had known it the moment Lilé’s shadows had whispered the revelation that three hearts beat within her. The twins would not know violence for as long as they could be shielded from it.

“You have taken your pound of flesh, as mortals say,” the Queen continued quietly, expression softening. Her free hand moved to wipe a spot of blood from Loki’s cheek, thumb steady. “An eye for an eye. Now we stay home. Now we look after our people, and wait for these little ones to emerge. Hm?”

A pointed look followed. Her consort was an excellent spymaster and sorcerer, and her Court was better for it. However, Loki could be intensely vindictive and relentless in his pursuit of revenge - especially when it was she who had been hurt or slighted.
