"Well a'course I am!" Chief snipped, baring his teeth in a gesture of disdain. The larger dog slunk a few feet away, pacing the ground as he watched the road carefully and expectantly. "He's gonna be right back here any minute now."

Chief had been left behind. He had watched as paramedics took his beloved master away, and he did his best to follow for miles, only to finally fall back in exhaustion to a nearby stray.

Amos would come back.

Amos always came back.

He shot an angry glare to the mutt next to him. "and I ain't gonna hear a word outta you."

Chief, since Meadow did save your life, what do you think of her now? Surely this is a tough question on your part, since I’m sure you don’t want to admit that you’re grateful, right?

"It don't mean nothin'," The old hound rasps stubbornly, turning his head away. "...Jus' means she made a mistake."

The adolescent vixen crept through the undergrowth as carefully as she could, though it was certainly hard to remain calm when she was inwardly so excited.

She was going to meet her father’s best friend!

Meadow was, admittedly, disappointed that Tod hadn’t told her about Copper, but now she was going to meet him for herself!

She poked her head out of the tall grass behind the fence. She knew this was the place.

Looking around, Meadow didn’t see anything… but she heard loud snoring.

Is that Copper?

She crept a little closer, slipping through the fence, and slunk up to Chief’s barrel.

“Psst! Hey… are you Copper?” she whispered, completely unaware of the extreme danger she was putting herself in.

There came a short sniffle from a snorting snout as it raised within the barrel's depths — The sound of a tired mongrel, no doubt. Groggy, and at first unaware of who he may have been speaking to, Chief stretched out his paws, claws scoring at the soft hay beneath.

"No, I ain't," The old dog started. "I ain't nothin' like that young fool of a-"

He broke off as he turned, eyes landing on the pelt of a young fox. Lips peeled back over his teeth, and he snarled, muzzle wrinkling. How had he not recognized that scent? Perhaps he was aging more than he'd thought...
