⇛ Wendy has spent half her summer at the      Mystery Shack. How much of that time      she spent actually working, well, that was      a whole other issue. At any rate, she was      pretty familar with the Pines family’s  —      quirks, for lack of a better word.

                 This one, though? This one                  really took the cake.

   “ I’m not so sure about this . . . “            she’s always been so much more, well, enthusiastic            than hiro had been. she’s all sweaters and glitter and            friendship, while he was more of the keep to himself            kind of type. so whatever place she was dragging him            to was bound to be a little bit overstimulating. still, she            was a friend, so he’d go with it. for now.

       mabel is just playing around, poking at his belly. he knows that, but it doesn’t    change how uncomfortable it’s making him. her comments about being able to            feel his bones definitely don’t help. he tries to laugh at the least, but his    nervousness is CONSPICUOUS. when she says he’s acting suspicious, he     kind of panics -- okay, maybe ‘ you’re acting suspicious ! ‘ is a bit of a childish      response. he hates being so obviously defensive ---------- it just makes people              worry MORE. he doesn’t want that. he hates when that happens.

        he can see the realization on her face, && he knows there’s no point in saying        that there’s nothing wrong. she definitely knows now. his suspicion is confirmed     when she asks about his eating habits. gods, why does he have to be so obvious ?
