Maber Architects Styles Visitor Centre For Grave Of Richard III
A visitor centre made by local firm Maber Architects in Leicester, England, involves a glass floor that supplies views of a 3D-printed replica of the remains of notorious English king Richard III on the spot where his bones were discovered (+ slideshow).
An original Victorian schoolhouse beside the web site of the former medieval Greyfriars church has been converted into a new data centre, with an extension featuring a glass covered section to the rear covering the web site where Richard III’s bones had been found in a vehicle park.

Exhibition spaces designed by Studio MB featuring displays and artefacts tell the story of “The King on the Vehicle-Park”. Displays are committed to the King’s dynasty, death and discovery underneath a automobile park that covered the remains of the medieval Greyfriars Church constructing.
The two-storey refurbished Victorian creating in the centre of the city also includes a cafe and function rooms and a viewing point to offer an elevated view of the grave web site.
The architects utilized materials from the original Greyfriars site to inform their decision of stone and wood in the single level extension.
A standing-seam distressed brass cladding was employed on the roof, which is visible from the Victorian constructing and is supported nearly totally by structural glass.
Limestone from a quarry 25 miles outside Leicester was utilised for the walls of the structure, alongside other neighborhood supplies including English green oak, which has been left exposed on internal supporting buttresses and beams, and stone sourced from Derbyshire for the floor.
Brass was also employed to finish the ceiling and door in the space that houses the grave where Richard was unceremoniously buried following his defeat at the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485. His bones have been found in the course of an excavation on the site in 2012, and will be reburied in Leicester Cathedral in March 2015. A 3D replica of the skeleton has been printed in a white plastic material to display in the grave.
A number of openings were made to replicate original views from the medieval church, and an current oriel bay window in the Victorian constructing has been replaced with a glass viewing window, to visually link visitors of the centre to the Norman-era St Martin’s Cathedral opposite.
The creation of a new boundary function wall that reaches out from the extension is hoped by the designers to draw in visitors from the Cathedral.
“The overriding objective is to develop a welcoming visitor attraction that will improve tourism for the City of Leicester,” stated Maber architects.
It is hoped that the centre will attract one hundred,000 visitors a year.

Yo, Wickedy Wack.
By: Amelia Hansen ”In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit” Susan Fluttermire read aloud to the children of Bakorkonia, which was a tiny village on the side of a great mountain. The town was small and everyone knew each other. You couldn’t go into town without running into at least 7 people you knew and meeting 4 others. Susan Fluttermire was the care taker of the children of the town, 9 in total children were under her care.
The town witch lived on the outskirts of town, in a small rundown cottage. She hated parties and loud noises, and unfortunately for her, there was a massive celebration going on. You have to understand something, the witch was very old and weak, but her voice was as sharp as knives. When she would yell, it would stab your ears like daggers into a moist fruit cake. Her back was so hunched, from the side she looked like a question mark with out the dot. Needless to say, she was not a very understanding woman.
The reason the village was partying was because the dragon Saphira had finally fallen asleep. The peasants figured out that the constant sound of music and laughing calmed the dragon and soon Saphira found it easy to rest. Saphira was an odd dragon to live in Narnia, her cave was just above the village on the mountain side, and she has a debilitating fear of old people. Metha, the town witch thought to herself “All old people such as myself are reasonable and sensible. I will make everyone old with a potion, yo wickedy wack. Ugh, these young kids’ speech problems are contagious,” she stormed into her poop shed to make a potion. Susan closed the book, and stared at the children, when suddenly they all started coughing uncontrollably. Everyone’s skin started to curdle like milk, their eyes became puffy and saggy like apple bottom jeans. And they had the boots with the fur…’the fur’ whispered Susan. She was so shocked she never noticed she, herself, was growing old.
Saphira awoke to the sound of nothing. No more parties, no more songs or screeches from happy children. Nothing but, complete and utter silence. Saphira didn’t like this, she had finally been able to sleep a solid four days without interruption because of the partying. What would she do now? Saphira decided to investigate. “내 엉덩이를 만지지” she screeched as she rolled out from her cave, “I AM COMING MY BABIES,”
“If I was your boyfriend I’d never let you go,” she muttered as she finally reached the bottom of the mountain where the village’s edge began, “swaggy”. Saphira walked around the village nervously, until she came across the first old person. She screeched “THE FUR!” and tromped away, in a dragonish manner. Saphira went to Susan’s house, she was rather fond of Susan. Susan would walk up the mountain and read fanfictions to her late into the night.
It would be useless to say she was surprised to find Susan aged and lying on the ground. Saphira let out another screech “SO CALL ME MAYBE” and she busted her head through the window of Susan’s house. “Paper cranes,” she grunted as she sniffed the body and said “Hmm, firm” as she squinted. There was only one way to reverse the spell, and Saphira knew what to do. She tromped back to the outskirts of town where Metha lived. “My kokoro…UNLOCK!” Saphira said whimsically. She began her magical girl transformation into a lovely crime fighter named Sailor Moon. She busted down Metha’s poop shed, destroyed all the ingredients with her fire breathing powers, and then burned Metha to death with her magical heart sparkles. The spell was reversed and the village went back to partying, and Saphira rested her head down to sleep one more time.
