You would think with someone as technological as me that I would be against buying physical magazines since I would prefer to just read things online or get an eMagazine. However, I am not like that.
My favorite magazine is CNET Magazine, which has been around since 2014, which is the same year my old favorite magazine, Macworld, quit making physical editions of their magazine.
I have tried the whole eMagazine thing before with the digital version of Macworld. I read it on my iPad Mini 2. The experience was decent. It was something I could read on the bus while going to classes. However, it was something that I knew was not going to be for me permanently, hence why I canceled it later on last year.
The last physical issue of Macworld that I purchased in 2014. Ironically at Book World (read my blog post about them!)
But why do I still buy magazines? Personally, when it comes to tech magazines, the ones I buy the most, I don’t like buying the “tech news” kind of magazines because by the time they are published, I am already aware of most of the news and rumors that are out there on the internet…for free.
Another reason why I still buy magazines is that a lot of them today contain exclusive opinion and interview articles that you cannot find anywhere else. I have also read app reviews from magazines like Mac Life that are another one of the many reasons why I’ll still read a copy of them every now and then.
On top of it all, I get 10 percent off all of the magazines at Barnes and Noble thanks to the membership card that I have from them. You cannot beat that!
Yes, the physical magazine industry is not as great as it used to be, but I still think that it serves a purpose, especially for people like me who love to read!
