I've started seeing posts that are like "you know self-hatred and depression are just selfishness because you're just obsessed with yourself." Like... yeah, kinda, but why do you say that like "this is the big revelation that will make people snap out of it! Being depressed is just being a bad person, gotcha!"?
You do know that that's not quite how it works? Telling someone they are a bad person for having feelings is usually not the big cure-all to mental illness. Y'all know this right?

Favourite flower: not quite sure. I'm a 100% sure that I have had one but I'm not sure what it is anymore. Maybe the Schlumbergera because it reminds me of my grandparents' place.

Because you'd be right.
You're probably a fascist
Or so I hear. Or at least soon to be.
That seems to be the idea behind what I see on here in leftist spaces quite often: "Thinking A can't be X is fascist thought." "Fascist" can be replaced with other groups like TERFs or SWERFs. Basic gist is that if you have a single wrong sort of thought, it's a slippery slope into fascism.
And we've all had those thoughts.
But the more I hear it, the more it starts to sound like a thought terminating cliche, ie. a repeated phrase in a community that indicates you're doing a wrongthink, so stop. It also has a kind of echo of choice feminism, which is when everything a woman does is feminist if she does it with #PoliticalConsciousness and questioning any of those choices makes you an anti-feminist.
And no, this is not about microlabels or neopronouns. I know someone over there thought that. But it does come up with identity labels a lot. Anyone can identify as anything and if your thought don't range from neutral to positive, you're having a fascist thought and need a self-criticism session. Your feeling bad.
(I'm not quite sure if this applies also to when one is forcefully and unwillingly included under an umbrella but maybe that's another tale to be told.)
You can see why this is a difficult thing to talk about because what I just said could just as well be part of something rather horrible. And the reason I'm not referring to any specific cases where this has happened is that I haven't really had an issue with any. My problem is with the argument itself.
Sometimes I think people go for the "that's fascistthought" argument because they actually don't know how to argue their point. They got big feelings and know they want to say something but they can only respond with "Stop that" and in come the thought terminating cliches.
And it is a tempting idea! This is the basic rule that we can live by. This is The One Rule. We figured it out, you guys. No conversation needed, everything else is wrongthink. It's the others who need to self-reflect, not me.
And yeah, truth is you can't prevent someone from using this or that term. There's no term/identity/label police and you can't actually be one. But does it mean you're becoming a fascist because you feel a bit hinky about that? Probably not. But do you have to take it when someone says you don't belong or can't use a term? No.
See, there's this thing called "conversing in good faith". Yeah, I know we don't do it anymore (if we ever did). The other people are just too Impure for that, aren't they?

Yes, I said that to my roommate's Maine Coon.
How to Ride a Werewolf
Now remember, a lady rides sidesaddle, NOT astride. Your mother would be in hysterics at the very idea that a daughter of hers would ride a werewolf astride! Why, next youâll be showing ankleâŠ
Thatâs not how you ride a werewolf ill show you how to ride a werewolf !!

When so you think humans learned that cats like to be petted?
my petty gripe about anachronism in historical/fantasy/spec-fic worlds is attraction language.
Weâve all heard the âshould you use modern queer labels or notâ argument but honestly even when people go âtrue, they wouldnât use the labels âaromanticâ or âasexual,ââ so often the characters describe their experiences as âI never felt romantic attractionâ or âI donât feel attracted to anyoneâ in ways that makes me go. You are stilllllll thinking about this in an extraordinarily modern online way. That 19th century steampunk detective man will NOT be angsting about having never felt romantic attraction, he would be angsting about being unable to feel moved by the beauty or charm of a woman, or something. And I do think that âattractivenessâ language is different from the identity-level idea of experiencing attractionâSherlock Holmes does not talk about not experiencing attraction, but when Watson says âWhat a very attractive woman!â Holmes responds âIs she? I did not observe.â (And then Watson calls him an inhuman automaton and calculating-machine and Holmes calls Watsonâs judgement biased). Never swayed by the attractiveness of a man or woman, never desirous of marriage, never charmed by the delights of love, all of these feel like some of the variety of ways that someone in this milieu might describe an ace- or aro-spectrum identity more than ânever felt attractionâ does. Mostly because, like the terms for aromantic and asexual themselves, nailing down an exclusively attraction-based definition of a-spec identities is a relatively new and extremely post-AVEN thing. And yet in fiction everybody knows to articulate their experience as feeling sexual/romantic attraction. And I always want to go nooo how would THIS character think about it?? Not how you think this character SHOULD think about it, how would THIS person in THIS context articulate their feelings?

Where's that tweet about how American chants are "let's go [team name] and some other country (Irish?) fans are "I've made up a song about the other team's drinking problem to the tune of London Bridge Is Falling Down one two three"?
We should have a phase where younger actors play older ones.
Not like 30 year olds in old makeup but 20 year olds as 30 and 40. No make up, just say that's the character's age.
30 year olds as high schoolers but in reverse.
