The sad remains of my macadamia nut tree. “Frost tolerant” my ass 🙄😔.
But she made it... so once the new leaves come in I’ll trim away the dead stuff and next year she’ll overwinter in the garage w the citrus.
Sorry beautiful. ❤️🤷🏻♂️

Ever wonder where macadamia nuts come from? Well wonder no longer!! (If they actually bloom I’ll post it!)
Harvesting my only surviving macadamia nut. I wasn’t sure how long to leave the macadamia nut on the tree so I harvested it today. After searching online, the two criteria were that the harvested not should float and that the second shell on the inside should be a chocolate brown color. As you can see from the pictures, the nut did float and it had a chocolate brown inner shell (although I originally thought the nut had simply rotted inside the Shell.) After liberating to not from its inner shell, I cut it in half and ate half of it raw. The consistency was a little bit like coconut. The flavor was very fatty and bland with a tiny bit of bitterness. But somehow, not a bad taste. Then I roasted the other half briefly to see if there was any difference in flavor and also salted it. The roasting brought out an incredible amount of oil and the flavor was better. Looking forward to next year and hopefully a few more nuts to eat. 🤣
Future macadamia nuts. So psyched!!
Macadamia nut flowers fully opened. Small but beautiful! Will they form nuts?? 🤞🤞🤞
Macadamia nut tree is growing a bit lopsided but my yard isn't exactly level so...
Macadamia nut tree. At least that's what the sign said lol. No flowers (or nuts) for two years in a row, but hey... it's not like I'm growing it in Hawaii.
“Ice cream” banana and macadamia nut trees. Early birthday presents for me!
