Do you think you could space your posts for accessibility? I have never been able to read any of your posts that are more than a few sentences because block text makes it difficult.
Hey! I have addressed this a few times but I don’t think I’ve done so recently - I totally understand that some of my posts are really difficult (sometimes impossible) for people who struggle with text blocks to parse. I am really open to requests for me to edit specific posts for readability! If you are struggling with a specific post or handful of posts you can also always ask me to condense them or give you a more accessible rundown of what I said.
However, most of my posts are written in a pretty short period of time and are mainly written from my perspective of just needing to get a specific idea “out there” for my own edification - a lot of this stuff is just me thinking out loud, so to speak.
I write for a living, and the paid writing that I do takes a lot of intellectual labor. It often leaves me with really limited brain space for editing the stuff that goes up on my (highly personal, in no way professional) tumblr blog. It’s not that I don’t care about accessibility - that’s why I don’t mind requests to edit or condense specific posts - it’s just that these blocks of text are ... kind of how my brain works?
Full disclosure: I have also had really bad experiences with people calling me stupid and etc WHILE criticizing me for the inaccessibility of my writing style, which makes me a little defensive - that’s obviously not what you’re doing here, but I feel a little frustrated with what I perceive as a limited understanding of what “accessibility” means, especially regarding people who are not neurotypical - something which can manifest in drastically different ways.
Anyway, I do appreciate you asking me about this, and please know that it’s not something I’m not unaware of, and I do have an open door policy basically when it comes to my willingness to adapt my posts. But I also like... I am not being paid to write this stuff, which makes this blog literally the one place where I can write shit without putting significant time and energy into editing it. And I feel like that’s often interpreted as me not caring about accessibility - which isn’t the case! - rather than just, like, me being someone with really limited time and resources.
TL;DR I promise to keep this in mind and I also promise that if you need a specific post made more readable I will do that for you, but I also would like people to understand that I am not a neurotypical person myself and my writing style reflects that, as well as my overall state re: time, energy, and labour.
God I hope this post is readable, lmao.
